About this Event
• What are the basic principles behind quantum computing?
• How to build an unhackable communication system.
• What are technological and socio-political consequences of this game changing technology?
The two distinguished speakers will separate the reality from the hype and give you the clearest explanation of the field and its impact on the future of our civilization.
Gavin Brennen is a Professor of Physics and director of Quantum Engineering at Macquarie University. He will explain quantum mechanical behaviours like entanglement and superposition and how it is used to build quantum. computers, then he will delve into the applications of these systems.
Dr Peter Rohde is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow in the Centre for Quantum Software & Information at the University of Technology Sydney. He will talk about the underlying science behind Quantum Internet and the exciting new possibilities in opens up for the future.

Title: Quantum tech 2.0: from quantum tricorders to quantum computers
Speaker: Gavin Brennen, Professor in QIS (Core), Department of Physics and Astronomy, ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQuS), Macquarie University Research Centre in Quantum Science and Technology.

Abstract: The first quantum revolution in the 20th century commercialised fundamental research and brought us lasers, semiconductors, and superconductor technology. Now we are in the midst of a second quantum revolution that will capitalise on fundamental quantum properties like entanglement and superposition to enable entirely new technologies from quantum computers and sensors to provably secure quantum communication. I'll describe the basic principles behind these technologies, their applications, and shed some insight into separating reality from hype.

Title: The Quantum Internet — The Next Frontier for Quantum Technology
Speaker: Dr Peter Rohde, Centre for Quantum Software & Information, University of Technology Sydney, Australia.

Abstract: Quantum computing is one of the world’s forefront fields of research, with future global ramifications that will place humanity in an entirely new technological era — the quantum era. While digital computing transformed humanity, it wasn’t until the widespread adoption of the internet that it began to fully realise its potential. We will examine the exciting new possibilities that will emerge from a future quantum internet. In addition to overviewing the underlying science, we will explore the economic, political, geo-strategic, game-theoretic, and security implications it will have, and we will take a look at the quantum space-race that has already begun.
