I dont recommend driving to Palm Beach as parking is $10 an hour.
Palm Beach, or 'Palmy' as it's called by locals, lies at the end of a long peninsula, fringed by surf on one side and tranquil Pittwater on the other. Its golden sands and clear waters have inspired Sydney’s wealthy to build holiday houses on its leafy hills. But down on the ground, things still feel pretty modest when there's sand between your toes.
If the weather permits, we will walk to the lighthouse. To get there, take an easy and picturesque walk along Barrenjoey track for 1km. The walk to the top requires moderate fitness and will take about 30 minutes each way from Governor Phillip parking area. You could choose to walk Smugglers track instead for a more challenging hike to the top. The name comes from customs officers who built the track to monitor smugglers bringing contraband into Broken Bay around 1850. Smugglers track offers a steeper and shorter trek up to the lighthouse, but it's well worth the effort. There is also a cave to explore and a famous Instagram ledge (I dont recommend walking out on it but there are amazing views).
If we have any energy left we’ll take a “Home and Away Tour” to view all the filming spots. We’ll visit the Summer Bay Surf Club, Alf’s Bait Shop and the iconic rock pool.
Palm beach has no pub but there is a Golf club or several cafes where we can have lunch. We will decide on the day.
