Tech Strategists (Melbourne)
Speaker 1) David Dyke, Principal Consultant (Microservices) "Confessions of a microservice architect" From 2015 to 2018 I was involved in the development of a cloud native microservice based system. With a team of developers who had only previously developed .NET Web Forms and MVC applications, deployed on on-premise bare metal hardware, this made for a daunting but exciting project. We spent ages iterating over our architecture, API designs, CI/CD pipelines and use of cloud offerings and were ready to take on the world, however, there was one thing we hadn't considered and it had nothing to do with the technology... ...in this talk I present the challenges we faced with uplifting existing managers and developers from the old way of working to the new. How we dealt with the differing motivations of each of the developers and the lessons learned from trying to push new technology on to development teams who were comfortable with the status quo. Speaker 2) "Why Your Tools Stop You From Attracting Top Engineering Talent" By Gerhard Schweintz, Head of Talent @ Contino Hiring engineering talent is every company’s biggest problem. In a market where top talent have a smorgasbord of options, Managers and Recruiters are frantically formulating new strategies to win the battle. Quite often the focus is on culture, salary, benefits. This is great, however, one aspect that’s always overlooked is the kind of technology stack your team uses, and what it tells potential recruits about your organisation. That’s what this talk will look into. Pizzas and Beers/Drinks Provided by Contino If you'd like to give a talk at a future meetup please reach out on [masked] Cheers
