ESCAPE TO THE SOUTH BANK
ESCAPE TO THE SOUTH BANK
For many years there has been a campaign to get a stretch of the South Bank designated as an official 'Sculpture Park'. It's no wonder. The stroll between St Thomas's Hospital and the National Theatre alone has some 17 notable sculptures/artworks. From the 1682 stone statue of King Edward VI to the imposing 2016 figure of Mary Seacole (pictured), striding off in front of a huge disc hewn from Crimean rock. Some of the sights might be familiar (Nelson Mandela at the Royal Festival Hall) but many are off the beaten track and deserve more attention. So I hope you can join me on this fascinating stroll through London's public art history. The cost as usual is £10.00 CASH payable on the day. Any enquiries to me, David N, on 07990 593 365 Walk will start on the County Hall side of Westminster Bridge. Nearest tube is Westminster.

MUSEUM LATES FOR DATES: Straight & LGBTQIA+ singles night | National Gallery
**A fresh take on dating for straight and LGBTQIA+ singles in their 30s, 40s and 50s, brought to you by LoMAZ. We visit a different museum on the last Friday of each month, before heading to the pub.** This month, join us for a relaxed evening of conversation and connections at the **National Gallery**. It's just like a usual LoMAZ event except for one thing: everyone there will be single. Come for friendship, come for dates, come along! [https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/](https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/) **HOW DOES IT WORK?** **6.00pm - 6:30pm: Meet and greet in the foyer of the main “Sainsbury Wing”Entrance of the National Gallery.** [Floorplan](https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/media/n1jh0au4/ng_online_map_downloadable_nov25.pdf) * Look out for LoMAZ hosts wearing a 'host' sticker in a yellow frame and they will welcome you. * You can choose to wear a LoMAZ logo sticker or a LoMAZ rainbow sticker, or both. Wearing stickers means everyone can see who is part of the group and helps you find us as we move around the museum. If you see someone with a LoMAZ sticker, feel free to chat to each other. **7.00 - 8.00pm: Explore the museum** * We'll then explore the museum together. Hosts will always be there to chat to. **8.30pm - late:** **Head to the pub.** * We'll carry on the evening in a nearby pub. ***Venue can be found in the event comments (visible only to members who have RSVP'd to this event).*** * As this is a free event we won't have a private space, but will aim to have a few tables reserved. So please expect some standing and mingling. **TICKETS:** Tickets are free and we do have a group booking however, if you arrive or choose to meet us inside the National Gallery then you need to book your own for 7pm using the following link. (https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/visiting/plan-your-visit/general-admission) **CONTACT AND GROUP LOCATION ON THE NIGHT:** * **We'll regularly update where the group is throughout the evening in the event comments.** * You can also message a host via Meetup if you have questions or any difficulties finding us. * Lates for Dates events do *not* have a WhatsApp group. **PLEASE NOTE:** * LoMAZ events are hosted by volunteers. Please change your RSVP if you can no longer attend. * This is a mixed orientation event. Let’s keep it friendly and respectful—please report any concerns to the hosts or Meetup. * All attendees at this meetup are coming as individuals and are responsible for their own security, and health and safety. Petersfield to Liphook - Hampshire's delights
Petersfield to Liphook - Hampshire's delights
**SUMMARY (all info is approximate!)** **Distance**: 21km (13 miles) **Duration**: 6-7 hours walking **Grade**: Moderate **HIGHLIGHTS** * great views from Shoulder of Mutton Hill * forests coming into bloom * bluebells, spring flowers * forlorn paths * weird and wonderful moreland on Longmore Common * Sussex Border Path & budding rhododendrons, * country pubs for refreshments. We'll start our walk in Petersfield and head north to follow part of the 34 km (21 mile) Hangers Way - a long distance path less travelled within an area of outstanding natural beauty. The countryside around here is unspoilt and forlorn, and we'll meet only a few locals out for a walk with their dogs. In our first hour, we will be rewarded with fantastic views from Shoulder of Mutton Hill as we continue through forested slopes and over open fields towards Liss and then onto Liphook via a nice lunchtime pub stop (for drinks only). After Liss, we will walk down Shipwrights Way to Longmore and Weavers Down, an army managed access land which is eerily remote and wild with a range of different flora, shrubs and trees. We will then walk on the Sussex Border Path and continue to Liphook, where we will reward ourselves with a pub stop. This will be English countryside in its quintessential beauty and at its best – with budding wild flowers and maybe some wild rhododendrons - as well experiencing Longmore Common which feels like walking over Scottish moreland. **COST AND LOGISTICS** **Cost**: £10 **Start**: 8.35 Meet for a group save ticket **Meet:** 8:45 for those who buy their own tickets & walk to train **Finish:** 5.30/6pm for an optional pub visit. **Recommended morning train from London** **Dep**: 09:00 London Waterloo **Arr:** 10.05 Petersfield **Return** **trains:** 18.20, 19.20 **Recommended train ticket** Off-Peak Day Return to Petersfield · **£25.75 group save/ network rail price** Recommended: Buy a yearly Network Railcard for reduced train prices www.network-railcard.co.uk **Meeting Point:** Waterloo Station - In front of Information Desk by the big Pret **REVIEWS** [Trip Advisor](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g186338-d19994843-Reviews-AAA_Hiking_Outdoor_Group-London_England.html) \| [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/AAAHikingUK/reviews) \| [MeetUp](https://www.meetup.com/aaa-outdoor-hiking-adventure-travel/feedback-overview/) **PRICE INCLUDES** · Guided hike planned and led by an experienced AAA leader, trained in Outdoor First Aid. **PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE** · Travel costs · Lunch, drinks or any refreshments · PayPal fees **RECOMMENDED KIT LIST** [(](https://mailchi.mp/aaalondongroup.com/kitlist)complete list[)](https://mailchi.mp/aaalondongroup.com/kitlist) · Suitable hiking shoes or boots · Packed lunch and snacks · Water - 2 litres recommended · Waterproof jacket and trousers (Please no jeans!) · Warm windproof layer e.g. Down/Primaloft/Fleece · Wicking base layer e.g. Polyester/Tencel/Merino **CANCELLING/REFUNDS** If you can no longer join the hike, please message the Host listed on here, and update your RSVP status to 'Not going', to allow others to take your place. COUNT RMH Housewarmer Volunteering (Ronald McDonald House)
COUNT RMH Housewarmer Volunteering (Ronald McDonald House)
Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process. Fast track • Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell). • Show up and try it out. • Complete application, etc. later. Normal process • Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/). • Attend orientation in advance. • At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility. • Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM. • Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895). The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014. Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
This is an in-person meeting. Did you know that unwanted emotions like loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, anger, fear, anxiety, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not chemical imbalance in your brain due to some nebulous chemical reactions by chance. Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you. The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life. For instance, let's say you are already carrying a huge load on your back, then you cannot take on much more, but, let's say something else happens to you, such as the difficulties from the Pandemic, then the resultant combined weight on you can take you over the edge, kind of like the straw that break the camel's back. When this happens, people's attention usually goes to the straw that was added, but actually the majority of the weight had come from the huge load that were already there, holding a person down and causing a person issues. So how do you remove the huge load that was already there? How do you lighten them up? Is it possible to get rid of them? That is what this meeting will be all about. Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there. This group is created by the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.

Here are complete details and our plan for this event: FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces. PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details: IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events! Should be another good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan
