Tour of Government Buildings.
The Imposing complex of Government Buildings on Upper Merrion Street was the last major public building the British constructed in Ireland. It was intended as accommodation for the Royal College of Science.
Fortuitously, it was completed by 1922. When Independance dawned, the New Free State Government moved in.
Former Taoiseach Charlie Haughy converted and entirely refurbished the building to form state-of-the-art accommodation for a number of departments including the Department of the Taoiseach, the Department of Finance and the Office of the Attorney General.
Tours of Government Buildings may be cancelled at short notice if they have visiting dignitaries etc.
Tickets may be obtained from the National Gallery at the onsite coffee shop where the guide sets up a small table. Tickets are free but on a first come first served basis. We need to be there for 9.30am to ensure a ticket. Once we have our tickets, the guide will accompany us to Government Buildings.

Rathfarnham Castle is a remarkable building. A huge building by pre-Georgian standards, it is the earliest surviving great house in Ireland from the period around 1600 when the arrival of design ideas from Renaissance Europe began to transform the character of elite domestic architecture on the island. In this lecture, the castle is compared with other buildings of the period in Ireland and England, and the brilliance of its design-conception is discussed.

Sutton to Howth Walk
On Sunday 26th April, we'll be doing a walk from Sutton to Howth.
**Meeting Location**
Outside Sutton Station at 12:16. The suggested train to catch leaves Dublin Connolly at 11:57 that gets into Sutton at 12:16. It actually starts in Greystones at 10:58 and stops at all stations en route so feel free to get on at the most convenient station for you.
**Route Description**
This walk is from Sutton to Howth via a less well-trodden route and then in Howth we will visiting a few places that are off the beaten track. At one point we will be walking across a beach so your footwear may get a bit sandy. The total length of the walk is around 9km. The first part of the walk is fairly flat but the second part will involve climbing a small hill.
If people are interested we could stop at a café or pub during or after walk. Or feel free to bring snacks as we could have a short break at some point. Or if people wish, we could go for Howth's famous fish and chips at the end of the walk.

2. Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks.
3. How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as a fairly easy walk, but having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
4. Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths.
