No Easy Answers: Beyond Positivity
Hello TEDheads!
All of us will go through suffering at some point. What will you cling to on that day?
Cliches and easy answers won't be enough. You will need something beyond 'everything happens for a reason'. Where will you find hope beyond positive thinking and pop-psychology?
The talks below will invite us to figure out a path that deals with reality without cliche. A path that invites us to drink of the real and not simply cover our pain.
Let's explore these questions and more together next week.
***Please watch the following TED talk and read the article on your own device before the event.***
***
# ★ **Talk #1:** ["Everything happens for a reason" -- and other lies I've loved](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTcJmIbn5nw) \| Kate Bowler
In life's toughest moments, how do you go on living? Kate Bowler has been exploring this question ever since she was diagnosed with stage IV cancer at age 35. In a profound, heartbreaking and unexpectedly funny talk, she offers some answers -- challenging the idea that "everything happens for a reason" and sharing hard-won wisdom about how to make sense of the world after your life is suddenly, completely changed. "I believe that in the darkness, even there, there will be beauty and there will be love," she says.

# ★ **Resource # 2:** [The gift and power of emotional courage](https://www.ted.com/talks/susan_david_the_gift_and_power_of_emotional_courage) \| Susan David
Psychologist Susan David shares how the way we deal with our emotions shapes everything that matters: our actions, careers, relationships, health and happiness. In this deeply moving, humorous and potentially life-changing talk, she challenges a culture that prizes positivity over emotional truth and discusses the powerful strategies of emotional agility. A talk to share.

reviving gardans, Growing community
**Hands in the Soil: Community Growing, Learning & Craic**
This first gathering will be a relaxed mix of **hands-on garden work, shared learning, and good conversation**. It’s about getting together in a real space, doing something practical, and seeing what ideas and connections might grow from there.
On the day, we’ll:
* Get our **hands dirty** with some light garden work and soil prep
* Do some **seed sowing** and talk about what grows well locally
* **Make kombucha together** and chat about fermentation, food, and simple home practices
* Share knowledge, questions, and experiences around growing food
* Enjoy some **fellowship, chats, and a bit of craic** along the way.Alongside the practical side, we’ll also have an open, informal discussion about a bigger idea:
* The possibility of **small community “park farms” or gardens** in underused green spaces around Dublin
* What that might look like, what’s realistic, and whether others feel drawn to exploring it further
There’s no pressure, no expertise required, and no expectation beyond showing up with curiosity and a willingness to pitch in. Whether you’re experienced with gardening or completely new, you’re very welcome.
Bring clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, and if you have them, gloves. Everything else will be very low-key.
This is just a **first step** — a chance to meet, work, talk, and see if there’s a shared appetite to keep growing something together.
We Are Nature Singing Workshop
Many of us are now realising that in order to live more in harmony with each other and the planet we need to recognise that we humans are nature. We are not separate from or superior to the natural world, we are part of the web of life and deeply connected to the rest of the living world.
In this group harmony singing workshop we will sing songs and chants from around the world which celebrate our connection with and belonging to the natural world. Though we have been a destructive force on this planet, we humans also know how to be stewards of the land. Singing in harmony helps us to reconnect to our sense of togetherness and belonging and helps us tune in to our connection to the rest of the living world.
All welcome – women, men and older kids who like singing. You don’t need any singing or voice-work experience as it isn’t about talent, it is about participation. This is a relaxed, inclusive, friendly and safe space, with no right or wrong way to use the voice. Adults of all ages, orientations, backgrounds and abilities are welcome.
Singing is a wonderful way to feel connected to oneself and others. This group singing workshop will help you find joy, connection, harmony and oneness. Through simple vocal exercises, movements and inspiring and empowering chants and songs from around the world, we will sing our cares away, have fun and express ourselves. You will leave renewed and uplifted, and with a deep sense of belonging and community.
Click [here](https://fullcirclechange.ie/offerings/self-care/singing/) to learn more about the style of singing at this workshop.
Harmony singing is extremely beneficial to our physical, mental and spiritual health and wellbeing, and you will leave feeling recharged, grounded, and uplifted.
Please book a ticket in advance [here](https://fullcirclechange.ie/event/we-are-nature-singing-workshop/). Prices from €45/40 concessions or €70 for 2 people booking together

Make Your Own Bird Feeder 🐦🌿
A relaxed, messy, joyful Saturday morning craft session for preschoolers and their grown-ups!
We'll be making homemade birdseed feeders together — all materials provided, just bring yourselves and little hands ready to get stuck in.
While we craft, we'll be chatting about finding joy in the mundane — why the simple, imperfect, everyday moments are often the ones that matter most. It's the kind of conversation that's easier to have when your hands are busy.
There'll be fresh fruit, veggies, tea and coffee for everyone — because grown-ups need a good snack too. Come as you are, mess is very much welcome here.
And a special note — dads, grandparents, grandads, aunties, uncles — this one is for you too. These mornings are for every grown-up who shows up, and we'd love to see more of you here. 💛
**Tickets:** 🌱 Per Adult — €10 🌱 Children — FREE
\*\*Pay on the day by cash or Revolut if needed!\*\*
**Where:** 📍 Seán O'Casey Community Centre 18-26 St Mary's Rd, East Wall, Dublin, D03 AY74

CMG Gives Back: Serve Brunch at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “create a better world” by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1
week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events!
Should be another good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above.
There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change.
The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/).
Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers.
For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.

Engaging in men’s work is the new way to forge friendships while being open-minded to personal growth. Many men experience healthier relationships, personally and professionally, by engaging in this work.
Open Men’s Group is a container for men to share vulnerably without receiving judgment or feedback.
We believe that emotionally mature, powerful, compassionate, and purpose-driven men will help heal some of society’s deepest wounds. We support the powerful brilliance of men and we are willing to look at, and take full responsibility for, the pain we are also capable of creating – and suffering. We care deeply about men, our families, communities, and the planet.
