Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail (79km 770m Intermediate) + easier option
Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail (79km 770m Intermediate) + easier option
Hi, I am looking to finally knock over the full Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail and back. This is approx. 79Km and 770m of climbing! So it's at least an intermediate level. We are not aiming to set any speed records, but regardless it is not one of our typical cruisy sat morning ride! It'll be a big, but thoroughly enjoyable day out! We will kick off from Lilydale station and follow the trail around to the bus depot where the rail trail properly starts. After a near U turn behind the school, we tackle the worst climb of the trail - approx. 5km of moderate climbing up to Mt Evelyn. It won't be a race, everyone can do their own thing up the climb and we will wait and regroup at the top! From here there is some downhill respite (ish!) for about 13km as we hit the halfway mark to Warburton where its a gradual incline up to Warby! Here we will stop for lunch, possibly at the bakery but the choice is yours, and head down to the river to eat and rest. After a break we will start out return journey. Probably stop for a quick refreshment if people need it at the Seville Carriage Cafe before starting the climb to Mt Evelyn before cruising down the other side back into Lilydale! See the RWGPS map here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/53922740 See pin here: Meet just outside Lilydale station in the East side carpark. https://maps.app.goo.gl/5b4fS1bZvDDJjuKQ6 **There is a train from the CBD that arrives at 8.15am (departs 7.06am from Flinders on the Lilydale line) providing there are no disruptions nearer the time!** * **SHORTER VERSION:** For those keen to do this ride, but feel they are not quite up to it, I will be meeting Dave on route at Wandin North. This will shorten the ride to approx. 55Km and 485m of climbing, most importantly, avoiding the climb to Mt Evelyn in both directions. If wanting to do this version, please state it in a comment below. **Wandin Nth is just under 12km from Lilydale, so I'm thinking circa 45-60 mins ride. Meet Dave about 9.15am, aiming for a 9.30am kick off from Wandin. (If we get there sooner than this and everyone is ready we will kick on!)** Another option is starting at Lilydale and ride to Warburton, and catch the bus back. The buses have a bike rack for 2 bikes at a time. I (assume) its an ever hour service so it's at your own risk as to whether there will be room on the bus if its busy! See RWGPS map here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50072730 Start location - Wandin North Trail Info Hub. See pin here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/N4cCDxbnejmSvr6P8 At the moment the forecast looks TBC Hopefully see you all there for a lovely day out! **Dave will be on a black/grey Merida hybrid with rear pannier, Harvey will be on a black Giant gravel bike** **YOUR BIKE** Suitable for most well maintained bike. It will be almost all good quality gravel, so pretty much any bike that isn't a full skinny slick road ride! **Note: End time is a guesstimate only** **ESSENTIAL ITEMS** Spare tube, puncture kit, pump, basic tools - good to have with you. Rain & warm gear (according to conditions) Plenty of water for the distance especially if it's going to be hot! Always better to have too much than enough! Check your app for any changes the night before, and on the day of the ride, as the ride may be cancelled in the event of extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances. **If you realise you cannot make it to the ride please change your RSVP to 'NO' immediately even if you are still on the Waitlist.** "Liability Waiver: The organizer of this group cannot accept any liability for any loss, damage, injury, or accident to participants or their property at this event. By participating in this event, you're taking responsibility for your safety and well-being. By joining this event, you agree to this liability waiver." Please just ride with some courtesy, use your bell/call out when required passing people, single file on narrow sections, blind corners etc just common sense.
How the mind is making the Body Ill. Free Meetup Talk
How the mind is making the Body Ill. Free Meetup Talk
How the Mind is making the Body Ill! What the mind is doing to the body. (yours) Did you know that about 70 percent of the physician's current roster of diseases fall into the category of psychosomatic illness? Psychosomatic Illnesses are those which have a mental origin but are nevertheless organic. Psycho, of course, means mind and somatic refers to body; the term psychosomatic means the mind making the body ill or illnesses which have been created physically within the body by derangement of the mind. At today's meetup you are able to learn why is it that some people recover promptly from illness, trauma or accidents whilst others receiving the very same treatments do so slowly, not at all or relapse. When one desires to handle any unwanted condition in life the mind plays a crucial role. Why is it then that all to many confess they know very little about the mind or anything at all. The mind and the problem of psychosomatic illness are entirely embraced by Dianetics (the Modern Science of Mental Health ) and by Dianetics technique. https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/1/5/a/1/600_462605537.jpeg Dianetics means: What the mind is doing to the body. Trough the application of Dianetics technique you will be able to confirm that when one resolves the problem of human aberration (any deviation or departure from rationality) you naturaly get great response all around. (Not just body related) Bizarre aches and pains in various portions of the body are generally psychosomatic. Migraine headaches are psychosomatic. Arthritis, dermatitis, allergies, asthma some coronary difficulties, eye trouble, bursitis, ulcers, sinusitis, etc., form a very small section of the psychosomatic catalog. Therefore the catalog of ills affected by Dianetics technique is very long. Dianetics is something that anyone can use to help improve himself and his fellows. My own truth is that the hidden source of all psychosomatic ills and human aberration has been discovered and accurate skills have been developed for their handling. I also know that many other people have experienced this to be true. Dianetics is a path to knowing how to know, unlocking the gates to be better future for yourself or others you love or are responsible for. Only by reading the Dianetics book (or watching the DVD) in full can one get an understanding of the workings of the mind and the potential merits that applying Dianetics technique yourself may have for you. Amherst College Political Science Professor, Dr Frederick L. Schuman declaration in the New York times: "History has become a race between Dianetics and catastrophe. Dianetics will win, if enough people are challenged in time to understand it" Your own investigation into Dianetics The Modern Science of Mental Health is prudent and welcomed. It's after all very sensible to investigate personally why this explosive bestseller book has sold more copies than any other book in its category and is the most influential book ever written about the mind. The above are some of my own opinions, experiences, and observations. As always results obtained by the individual are up to him. No promises are made by me or anyone or anybody. Any technique no matter how good does not work for people that do not want to change, are not interested or have other agendas. Those that do not fall into those categories tend to do very well and flourish and prosper because of it. Truth is not what people say it is. it is what it is. All People of goodwill are welcome. Contact us if today's date or time do not suit your schedule. If one can not make it to our meetup class then it's recommended you get yourself a copy of the Dianetics book or DVD by contacting the event organizer. Know yourself Know Life!. Tanja and Michel

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for May is "Ink" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
How Lucky by Will Leitch
How Lucky by Will Leitch
Posting this early because seemingly all Sundays in May are holidays or busy! I picked a shorter thriller that's hopefully a fast read/listen. [Columbus library link to book](https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3458940) Location: Grandview Cafe, *1455 W. 3rd Ave*, Columbus, OH 43212 [Menu](https://www.grandviewcafe.com/menu) Book summary: Daniel leads a rich life in the university town of Athens, Georgia. He's got a couple close friends, a steady paycheck working for a regional airline, and of course, for a few glorious days each Fall, college football tailgates. He considers himself to be a mostly lucky guy -- despite the fact that he's suffered from a debilitating disease since he was a small child, one that has left him unable to speak or to move without a wheelchair. Largely confined to his home, Daniel spends the hours he's not online communicating with irate air travelers observing his neighborhood from his front porch. One young woman passes by so frequently that spotting her out the window has almost become part of his daily routine. Until the day he's almost sure he sees her being kidnapped.
