Ashridge Bluebells (14 or 11 miles)
Edward II was born this day in 1284. Roger Mortimer was born this day in 1287. Not only did King Edward & Mortimer share the same birthday, both their fates lay with "*the beauty of beauties...in the kingdom if not in all Europe*" - Isabella of France.
While Isabella acted out her role as dutiful wife to Edward at King's Langley, he proffered the nearby castle at Berkhamsted to his preferred favourite, Piers Gaveston.
From those impressive castle ruins, this walk heads into the Ashridge woods, which house among the most romantic expanses of bluebells. Then the Grand Union canal takes us to King's Langley, historic seat of the Plantagenets.
Travelling in France, Isabella found solace in Mortimer. After she returned with Mortimer triumphant, and Edward found himself duly deposed, the castle from where we start became home for her son John of Eltham.
Outward Travel: Take the train departing 9.54 AM from London Euston to BERKHAMSTED. With Groupsave or Network Card an off peak day single is £7.30. Return from KING'S LANGLEY to London is £5.75. So total return £13.05 with Groupsave or Network card.
Those wanting a shorter walk can finish at earlier stations Hemel Hempstead or Apsley.
Beforehand from 9.30 AM the organizer will be easy to spot near the ticket office in the station wearing yellow to act as a focal point for people arranging group tickets.
Walk start: 10.30 AM from Berkhamsted rail station.
Bring a packed lunch. Cafe stop. Pub stop for drinks.
*How to join?*
* The walk is entirely free of charge;
* You only arrange for your own travel and pub expenses;
* Understand our terms and conditions below (the "IMPORTANT" part);
* Understand how to stay safe outdoors, as you will be responsible for yourself. See our quick safety tips:
http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/
*What to bring*
* Plenty of water, 1-2 litres recommended
* Enough snacks and packed lunch to keep you energized along the walk
* Extra snacks and an extra packed lunch just in case
* Rainproof (ideally waterproof) clothing, sturdy shoes/boots you don't mind getting muddy
Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section!
IMPORTANT
Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes.
Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader".
Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen.
Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-)
By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer.
Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips:
http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/
TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE
Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered.
As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.

London Philosophy Collective Symposium / The Paradox of Fiction
An open participation philosophical discussion. No previous philosophical experience necessary
Please follow the stated guidelines
This is a Philosophical Discussion hosted by Joel Janiurek.
We shall be discussing The Paradox of Fiction.
This event is open to all. No previous philosophical experience necessary.
The aim is to have fun, meet new people, generate interesting and thought-provoking conversations, have your horizons expanded, challenge your preconceptions and who knows - you might even learn something?
Philosophy is about conceptual analysis. It's thinking about thinking. It's not about empiricism or the real world. It's about abstractions, concepts and ideas.
In order to make the conversations as fun, interesting and productive for everyone as possible please follow these simple guidelines:
1. Keep it Philosophical (No Science, no History, no Sociology, no Evolutionary Psychology, no contestable facts, no personal anecdotes).
2. Think for Yourself (No phones, no looking up definitions, no name dropping Philosophers / books you've read).
3. Tangents are Cool (Don't worry too much if the subject drifts and you don't answer the question).
4. Keep it Succinct (Like this).
5. Be Excellent to Each Other (But of course).
We hope to see you there

Let's Discuss... Normlessness!
Within the last century, society and technology have changed rapidly. We have built tools to expand our reach, to build connections face to face and virtually, as well as tools to destroy each other. Technology is being built to engage needs we don't fully understand, often before the consequences of doing so are known. Examples could be the making and consumption of social media and pornographic content, or the rapid development of AI tools and companion at the detriment of work and social wellbeing.
Who benefits when you don't know what normal looks like?
If everyone does whatever feels right, is that freedom or just chaos with good PR?
If you get to choose your own values, are you really choosing, or just rationalising what you already wanted?
Is the real problem the speed of change, or that we never had great norms to begin with?
As family, religion, and work weaken as institutions, what fills the normative vacuum, and is it enough?

Blood On The Clocktower at The Greene Man
New and Experienced Players Welcome! 🤗
Ever played Werewolf, Mafia or Secret Hitler?
Well this game is like that but on steroids! 😈😇

Suitable for complete beginners, experienced veterans and everyone in between, we Play **'Blood on the Clocktower'** a game where you never know who you can trust...
A great way to meet new people in a fun interactive way, at a bar serving food and drinks
Continue reading for a general description of the game:
Blood on the Clocktower is a bluffing game enjoyed by 5 to 20 players on opposing teams of Good and Evil, overseen by an experienced Storyteller.
During a 'day' phase players socialize openly and whisper privately to trade knowledge or spread lies, culminating in a player's execution if a majority suspects them of being Evil.
At 'night' time, players close their eyes and some are woken one at a time by the Storyteller to gather information, spread mischief, or kill. Use all your powers of deduction and deception to survive this game of murder and mystery.
The game will be fully explained at the event.

Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games!
The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!

Mission: grow, support, and provide community for atheists in Central Ohio.
Social meetings held most Tuesdays at a local pub/restaurant at 7:00 PM (and often into the wee hours). Attendees call themselves agnostics, skeptics, humanists, non-theists, deists or even theists. All attendees are welcome but should support our vision.
Atheists of Columbus (AoC) is part of Omnipresent Atheists (OA). AoC members are invited to join this OA meetup and/or OA Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/omnipresentatheists/ ) but are free to continue conversations on the AoC Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/columbusatheists/ ). AoC was founded in 2012 as a networking, social group for Central Ohio area humanists, skeptics, atheists, agnostics, nonbelievers, freethinkers, and the curious. It was a member of Columbus CoR and held weekly meetings, mostly on Fridays, for several years but then operated as an online only group for some time. In November 2018, Omnipresent Atheists (OA), a group that routinely meets on Tuesdays, invited AoC to merge.
Omnipresent Atheists is a member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason (ColumbusCoR.org). Omnipresent Atheists is a member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason ( http://www.ColumbusCoR.org ). Omnipresent Atheists endorses the mission of the Secular Coalition for America ( http://secular.org ).
This group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for over a decade. Many attendees do not RSVP on meetup. Please don't let the small number here discourage you. Anyone/everyone is welcome to come. We'd love to have you join us.
Psychic Development Series II - Pueo Group
Private Group. Closed to the Public
Knowing ourselves and understanding our abilities is the first step toward wielding our gifts with control and accuracy.
In subsequent classes we will verify and hone our talents with activities and discussion. These are hands-on workshops and participation is expected.
The goal of our series will be to develop expertise in areas of particular interest such as mediumship, channeling, divination, healing and, etc.. Our ultimate directions will be determined by class members as we evolve.
I look forward to sharing and discovering with you. - Cynthia
