**Monoux Sixth Form College** 190 Chingford Road London E17 5AA Not a structured meeting but an exhibition of personal approaches to the UN sustainability goals on climate change, inspired by Buddhism and created and promoted by SGI-UK. It is open from 4 - 6pm from Monday 20th April to Friday 24th, and from 1 -3pm on Saturday 25th April. Just come along at any of the above times — but please register your interest here on the app for monitoring purposes. I'll be there myself some of the time but am not 'hosting' as such. Let's start with a quick drink at the People's Park Tavern at the Last table or before last, towards the Pub's exit in Vicky Park, in their garden at the back (top of picture), where we'll have a friendly chat about our favourite possible activities. Then we'll walk 5 mins to an outside cafe in the middle of Victoria Park and we'll enjoy table tennis for as long as we want. Because I will occasionally travel to Brighton I'll need so of you guys to host if I am not able. Here are a few ideas for future meetups: Boules with a proper floor for it, Badmington but will need to share the cost of a £40 net maybe one day, Photography for Fun as I used to teach, Outdoor Picnic and Scabble or other games, Wood fire where permitted and guitar Singing noises, Fast walk, Old Days games we used to love when we were younger like Marbles and lead soldiers in my case, Portrait drawing/doodling, Speed Socializing rather than dating, Snooker wherever possible, Volleyball, Arm Wrestling for the Boys and Girls, Meditation, Outdoor Therapies and plenty more... I will be adding profile questions to our Meetup group so you can also take the time to list some of your ideas. Finally ASAP we will start one or more WhatsApp groups to help the buzz.

We’ll show you why the power tool is your friend and give you the confidence to master it in just one session. Identify what any wall is made of and learn how to select the correct combination of drill bit, wall fixing and screw to ensure that your shelves can hold your heavy items, curtains and blinds stay up. Learn to drill into tile and brick without creating a shallow, wide hole and a cloud of dust! Leave with the skills, confidence and know-how to go home and hang those pictures and shelves that have sat on your floor for months, waiting to reach their full potential. All personal protection, tools and materials are included. Suitable for absolute beginners. Enjoyable for everyone.

Join us for a unique, small gathering of just 12 people for a 90 minute experience in a tea room with a tea ceremony - meditative and beautiful ritual inspired by Tao and Zen. Sitting on the cushions on the floor we will slowly drink earthy tea, allowing the ceremonial drink to take us to the dimension of it's profound energy, and through the delicate sensory stimulation, we will try to explore it's ephemeral presence and a perception of ourselves. Brought to Japan by Buddhist monks, the process of preparing, brewing, and serving tea was developed and practiced to perfection. Just like martial arts, the repetition of the ritual is said to **bring mindfulness,** **harmony, and peace**. The tea ceremony is packed with the philosophy of Zen Buddhism. **About the Tea Ceremony** During the tea sessions we sit on the floor and drink exceptional oolong, pu-erh, white or green tea, slowly and mindfully, fully present to the smell, taste, touch, present to all we hear, all we see, feel and sense, and through this presence to the senses we stop the chatter of our busy minds, we stop thinking for a moment about the future or the past, we experience and live the actual moment, we observe and notice the beauty in the simplest things around us, fully satisfying ourselves through just being in the space in stillness, present to 'here' and 'now’. A perfect starter for all those annoying jobs around the house that you feel you should be able to tackle…if only you knew how. We know it’s frustrating to wait for it to be done and then get charged for it and we understand it can be a bit daunting to head into a wall with a power drill. Pick up the skills to hang curtains, blinds, and simple shelves on any wall. Learn to drill into wood, brick, tiles, or hollow walls with confidence. We will show you how to judge what is behind the walls before you drill. An enjoyable ‘ hands-on’ one-day workshop that covers many of the common aspects of basic DIY. If you have just bought your home and have realized it didn’t include a landlord to fix stuff, or just don’t want to rely on someone else, this day is for you. There is plenty of time to practice on several exercises over the day. The workshop also covers hanging pictures and heavier objects like mirrors, cupboards, and flat-screen TVs. You will learn how to hang a hook, fix a baton, and then a pair of level shelf brackets. Finish off the day learning how to fit shelves into awkward alcoves – a handy skill you can use to fit work surfaces too. Learn how to select the correct drill bit, wall fixing, and screw to secure things confidently. The day will also include a chance to fill small and medium holes in wood and walls to prepare your surfaces for painting. Along the way, we show you how to remove old wall fixings and what to do with the ones you can’t. This a fun fast day with plenty of tools to try and lots of advice on which tools to have in a basic toolkit. If you are thinking of upgrading your drill, you can test all of the ones we use and feel more knowledgeable about what you want to buy. This course is especially suitable if you are not handy or if you are able, but not that confident, about tackling small but important tasks in your home. We will also suggest how to tell if a task is appropriate for DIY or GSI (Get Someone In). You will take home a set of skills that will last a lifetime. All tools and materials included.
