Come volunteer with us refurbishing donated bicycles so that they can be used again by the community! This event is open to new and existing volunteers. No mechanical experience is necessary. **Note: The warehouse location is in the alley behind 1502. Look for a large grey garage door with a regular size grey door next to it.** That's where we will be. Please be aware that volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to accompany them to their first volunteer experience and sign a liability waiver, while volunteers under 16 need a parent or guardian to accompany them at all times while volunteering with Vélocity.

This regularly scheduled Thursday night run meets at the head of the Anacostia NE Branch trailhead. Meet at 6:30 pm for introductions and to decide what distance, time, or interval everyone's running. We hit the pavement by 6:45 pm. This is a time-based run, usually 30 minutes out-and-back. For many it's about a 5k or more. Runners of all abilities welcome! This is usually considered an 'easy' run. There is usually a group doing run-walk intervals, which is a great option especially for those just coming back to running.

Early riser? Need to get your run in before the kids are up and the busy-ness of the day sets in? Join other early morning runners at the CAVA in Bowie, 15480 Annapolis Rd. The group meets at 5:30am and promptly sets out for a 3-5 mile run along Annapolis Rd. **Join a work party to organize the Velocity Bike Co-op warehouse on the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon.** Mike Pattisall, Velocity's business manager, will guide volunteers in improving the space where we work. You don't need to be there the whole time. Just come when you can, and wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. **Help keep the warehouse organized so there's space to work on bikes on volunteer nights!**

Please join us for an easy walk around Fairfax County's Burke Lake Park. The 4.7 mile flat, paved trail offers lovely views of the lake and a quiet contemplative place to enjoy a leisurely social hike. In honor of Veganuary, VSDC will be providing cookies and hot chocolate to share after the hike! This hike is rated as easy based on flat terrain and minimal obstacles. We'll be sharing the trail with other hikers, runners and bicyclists and ask that folks walk two abreast, allowing others to pass so that we can "share the road". From Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA, turn into the entrance to the park on Burke Lake Park Road, then make a left at the Information Center. There is a $10 fee for non-Fairfax County residents on weekends (April - October only). If you can offer a ride, please post in the “comments” section with metro station or other accessible location for pick up. Carpooling is a great way to meet people and help the environment! Dog friendly?: Yes. Please keep your dog leashed at all times. Bathroom Facilities/Water: Located at the Information Center at the start of the hike, and at the Marina at the end of the hike. Please carry plenty of water! Weather: If conditions pose a danger, we’ll cancel the hike and post a notice in the “comments” section. Be prepared! Start the New Year off right! Join us as we get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event to distribute food at the Champion Food Pantry! We’ve created a great little community of Movie Group friends! Rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve people in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event: CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: The Champion Food Pantry provides needed food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. For this event, we’ll be volunteering to help with Food Distribution during client pick up times. Our group will receive on-the-spot training from some of their seasoned regular volunteers. PLAN FOR CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: Please arrive by 2:45pm. Our volunteer time will be from 3:00 to 6:00pm. LOCATION & PARKING: The Champion Food Pantry is located at 1460 S. Champion Ave in Columbus. The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~$20 per person. Soft drink refills are $1 each. Please support our hosts so we can continue to provide great events for the group! The Forge has a large library of games available for us to enjoy. Hosts and regulars will also provide numerous popular games but please bring any games you would like to teach and/or play. Doors open at 6, and we expect gaming to be rolling by around 630. Please promptly end your games and clear out the space at 10pm when the bar closes. We encourage socializing but do not permit disruptive behavior of any kind. Thank you for your continued commitment to providing a fun and welcoming space to veteran, newbie, and rookie gamers in the Columbus area! Parking can be challenging. There is a parking lot behind the building that is free and easy to walk from but it's a bit hidden.

Volunteer with Westerville Queer Collective and the Neurospicy Meetup to build care packages for local unhoused folks, which will be distributed throughout local camps and neighborhoods via Heer2Serve (501c3). Will you donate any items? If so, comment what will you bring Please make sure clothing items are clean and if you’re donating food, ready to be eaten without a stove or microwave. We expect to assemble around 50-100 packages, so if you’ll purchase items, please consider that amount (ie bulk individually packaged candies etc.). Fun and interesting book or entertainment item donation also welcome! Package assembly will take place on January 17th from 10-12 am. Location TBA but will be in Westerville, Ohio.
