The Dissident Salon - Poetry, Prose, and Provocation by Alissa Leeds
The Dissident Salon - Poetry, Prose, and Provocation by Alissa Leeds
The Dissident Salon is a weekly poetry and performance series created as an extension of the DISSIDENT Club’s mission to provide a home for dissenting voices, hosted by Alissa Leeds. Rooted in the tradition of the literary salon, it treats writing and performance as public acts that question power and challenge the systems that shape our lives. Each week features a curated performer, followed by open mic sessions open to all. Work may be presented in English, French, or other languages. Multilingual expression is central to the space and reflects the realities of exile, displacement, and exchange that define the DISSIDENT Club. The Salon is an ongoing forum for people who speak publicly and think critically through art. It exists to build community and support sustained creative work within the broader ecosystem of the DISSIDENT Club. **When:** Every Tuesday, starting January 6th, 2026 **Sign-ups:** 8:00 PM **Sets:** Three 45-minute sessions at 9:00 PM, 10:00 PM, and 11:00 PM **Where:** The DISSIDENT Club, 58 rue Richer, 75009 Bring work that confronts.

🌌 %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% **Dear Group Elements,** (Yes — *like elements of a mathematical group* 🧮🙂) Let's attend this fascinating (and informative!) talk on **“SMILE: Revealing the Invisible — Exploring Earth's Magnetosphere in X-rays”** by Dimitra Koutroumpa (LATMOS-OVSQ) 🌌🌌 🔄 ***This event replaces a previously announced session scheduled for the 7th April, titled ‘Exploring the nature of dark energy with the DESI project’, which has been postponed to 5 May (registration opens on 8 April)*** **Description:** 🌞 Space weather studies Earth's space environment, particularly the interactions between the Sun and our planet. At the heart of this system, the magnetosphere — a natural magnetic shield — protects us from charged particles emitted by the Sun (the solar wind), which are generally kept at bay by a boundary called the magnetopause. 🛰️ However, under certain conditions, the Sun's and Earth's magnetic fields can interconnect, creating gaps in the magnetopause. These openings allow energetic solar particles to penetrate our space environment. The intensity and frequency of these magnetic reconnection events vary with solar activity. During activity peaks, solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) can trigger major disruptions such as geomagnetic storms, polar auroras, but also satellite malfunctions, radio blackouts, and even power outages. 🔭 To better understand and anticipate these phenomena, the SMILE mission (Solar Wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer), planned for launch in April 2026, will use innovative X-ray imaging technology. Its goal: to globally observe the magnetosphere and its evolution in response to solar wind variations, in order to improve our understanding of space weather and its impacts on daily life. 📝 **Here’s the registration link** (please do it promptly) and more! https://www.iap.fr/science/conferences/conferences_mensuelles/ https://www.iap.fr/science/conferences/conferences_mensuelles/form_reservation_conference.php https://www.iap.fr/science/conferences/conferences_mensuelles/resumes2026.html **Even if the registration appears full when you follow the link, it’s usually still possible to get seats if you arrive early** 🍀 The talk is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. ▶️ And the session will also be available **live and replay** on IAP's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@InstitutdAstrophysiquedeParis 📍 **Acces**: https://www.iap.fr/accueil/acces/acces-fr.html 🍺It usually lasts 60–90 minutes. Afterwards for those who'd like to continue the evening, we could grab a drink and/or go to this pretty good fast-food restaurant near Alésia: Brasao Alésia – Grilled Chicken Restaurant, Paris 14th, 47 Avenue du Général Leclerc, 75014 Paris https://maps.app.goo.gl/5QrggZkJYsdaTLUk6 See you very soon! 🌌

Aeneid, by Virgil
Aeneid, by Virgil
The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who fled the fall of Troy and travelled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans. Written by the Roman poet Virgil between 29 and 19 BC, the Aeneid comprises 9,896 lines in dactylic hexameter. The first six of its twelve books tell the story of Aeneas' wanderings from Troy to Italy, and the latter six tell of the Trojans' ultimately victorious war upon the Latins, under whose name Aeneas and his Trojan followers are destined to be subsumed. The hero Aeneas was already known to Graeco-Roman legend and myth, having been a character in the Iliad. Virgil took the disconnected tales of Aeneas' wanderings, his vague association with the foundation of Rome, and his description as a personage of no fixed characteristics other than a scrupulous pietas, and fashioned the Aeneid into a compelling founding myth or national epic that tied Rome to the legends of Troy, explained the Punic Wars, glorified traditional Roman virtues, and legitimized the Julio-Claudian dynasty as descendants of the founders, heroes, and gods of Rome and Troy. The Aeneid is widely regarded as Virgil's masterpiece and one of the greatest works of Latin literature

Let's Talk Tech: Tap Water, Patient Care, and the Power of AI
Let's Talk Tech: Tap Water, Patient Care, and the Power of AI
Join us on **April 8, 2026** at our Paris office for an evening at the intersection of data, AI, and public health, from making tap water quality transparent to every French citizen, to reimagining what clinical care looks like in 2030. Two speakers. Two projects. One shared conviction: complex data, in the right hands, changes lives. *** **6:30 – 7:15 pm \| Jérémy Greze\, Freelance Product × Data × Dev** **44 Volunteers, 10 GB of Open Data, 650K Visitors, and a Question in Parliament** *In October 2025, [dansmoneau.fr](http://dansmoneau.fr) went live — a site where any French citizen can check exactly what's in their tap water. Within days it was featured on the front page of Le Monde, with prime time TV coverage, and a question raised in Parliament. Budget: zero.* *Behind it were 10 GB of open government data, 44 volunteers from Data For Good, and the scientific expertise of Générations Futures. The data had always been there — public, collected monthly by health authorities — just buried and impossible to use. They made it accessible.* *This talk is the technical story of how they achieved this by designing the data pipeline, discovering that 10 GB is actually small data with the right tools, and rendering 24,000 water zones on an interactive map without crashing the browser. And if time allows — what the data actually reveals about PFAS, pesticides, nitrates, VCM, and perchlorate across France.* *** **7:15 – 8:00 pm \| Li\-Heng Fu\, Senior AI Solution Engineer\, Health & Life Sciences — Dataiku** **Building the Future of Care: Clinical AI in 2030** *"There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks when decades happen."* For decades, healthcare was a fortress of inertia — guarded by data privacy constraints, rigid workflows, and high-stakes accountability. Those walls are coming down. Not just because of technology, but because of the clinicians and builders choosing to lead the charge. Drawing on the latest Stanford ARISE AI research and emerging industry breakthroughs, Li-Heng will trace the shift from experimental benchmarks to real bedside applications — exploring the rise of multimodal diagnostic agents, ambient scribing, and autonomous healthcare assistants. The session closes with a harder question: as AI reshapes healthcare by 2030, what kind of patient-doctor relationship are we actually trying to build? *** The talks will be followed by open discussion and networking. Come ready to ask questions. *8 - 10PM: Meet & greet with drinks* ***Dataiku will only use your personal information to provide the product or service you requested and contact you with related content that may interest you. Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: THE CHRISTOPHERS vs NORMAL at the Gateway!
Join us as we get together for a Discount Tuesday / Choose Your Movie event to see your choice of two great new films! Option 1 (and the one I'll be seeing) is the top-reviewed comedy-drama, THE CHRISTOPHERS! The film is set in the art world and follows the estranged children of a former artist who hire a forger. It is directed by Steven Soderberg, stars Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel and has been earning rave reviews on the indie circuit. Option 2 is the latest action-thriller starring Bob Odenkirk, NORMAL! The film follows a temporary small-town sheriff who uncovers dark mysteries after a local bank robbery. Here are descriptions, trailers and our plan for this event: THE CHRISTOPHERS: The children of a once famous artist hire a forger to complete some unfinished, long ago abandoned canvases so they'll have a better inheritance when he dies. It is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, Jessica Gunning and James Corden. BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film is earning an excellent 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes where critics call it a “dynamic, emotional and surprising journey” and a “compelling chamber piece that works like intellectual comfort food.” Others call the film, an “incredibly funny, comedy drama with plot reversals that make it feel like it’s on the verge of a thriller!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H79-EqzmdwY&t=20s NORMAL: This action-crime-thriller follows a man who comes to the sleepy town of Normal, Minnesota to serve as the temporary sheriff. But a bank robbery leads him to a criminal underground reaches throughout the entire town. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley and stars Bob Odenkirk, Henry Winkler and Lena Headey. The film comes from the same team that brought us Nobody and the John Wick series, so expect an over-the-top, action-filled thrill ride! TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmm-lM33Qw0&t=19s PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime. Once showtimes are announced, advance ticket purchase is advised (GFC website preferred)! Please list your movie of choice and seat number in the Comments section of this event. Showtimes and complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. PARKING: Close, convenient parking is available in the nearby garage (located between 9th and 11th, just off High St). Bring your ticket with you and have it validated at the theater and for $2, you’re covered for the night! Look forward to seeing you there, Dan

...and speaking of breakthrough roles: who can forget the first time we saw Tom Cruise singing Bob Seeger in his underwear? Often considered an updated 1983 version of The Graduate, the movie sparkles with memorable lines and original music. Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games! The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime! Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
Humanist Program
Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. Many men experience healthier relationships, personally and professionally, by engaging in this work. Open Men’s Group is a container for men to share vulnerably without receiving judgment or feedback. We believe that emotionally mature, powerful, compassionate, and purpose-driven men will help heal some of society’s deepest wounds. We support the powerful brilliance of men and we are willing to look at, and take full responsibility for, the pain we are also capable of creating – and suffering. We care deeply about men, our families, communities, and the planet. Visit ManKind Project USA to discover more. https://mkpusa.org/
