As part of the 250th anniversary of the USA, four tall ships, Providence, Kalmar Nyckel, Sultana, and Gazela will be at the Alexandria waterfront for Sails on the Potomac. We'll be able to view and get on board one or more of these replica and original historic sailing vessels. The weekend festival also includes history exhibits, demonstrations, artists, and live music. DC Anime Club Will Host a Lolita Picnic We will meet up in front of the Smithsonian Metro station at the top of the entrance escalators at Mall Exit and then proceed to the picnic area. For those who are unfamiliar, Lolita is a fashion subculture in Japan that is primarily influenced by Victorian children clothing, as well as costumes from the Rococo period. Lolita has made this into a unique fashion by adding gothic and original design elements to the look. From this, Lolita fashion has evolved into several different sub ...styles and has created a devoted subculture in Japan. The Lolita look consists primarily of a knee- length skirt or dress, headdress, blouse, petticoat, knee-high socks or stockings, and rocking horse or high heel/platform shoes.
