Description of Walk:
Follow the ridgeline to climb through open bushland and enjoy views across Storm Bay and North West Bay. You can now continue the track through private reserve to Mt Louis Rd. The whole of Tinderbox Peninsula contains important white gum forest – critical habitat for the threatened forty-spotted pardalote.
We continue walking down Mt Louis Road to Tinderbox Road then make our way to the picnic area at Piersons Point for lunch. Great views of Bruny Island, Iron Pot and lower reaches of the Derwent. The Piersons Battery below the light house is worth a visit.
History of the area
Fort Pierson, although only constructed and utilized during the 2nd World War, still has historical significance in the history of Hobart and sections of the fort, such as the observation building and the concrete reinforced gun emplacement, situated on the cliff face, are able to be visited and viewed.
