What we're about
[This is a hybrid meetup -online and in person! 😁]
In love with personal development? In love with reading? Well, then, this is the group for you! This is a space for real and raw discussions, where you are invited to bring your whole self to the table, not just the 'good vibes only' version. Even if you feel like absolute crud on the day and just want to giggle at our lively discussion with your camera off, that's cool too 😁.
We discuss a featured personal development book every month and outline strategies for implementing key take-aways for the betterment of our own lives as well as for the lives of those around us.
Are you writing a personal development book? Well, this is a great opportunity to connect with a community of readers interested in the genre!
These meetings are facilitated by a full-time Life Coach (yours truly) and former university educator with over a decade of international experience in facilitating discussions across groups from various cultural backgrounds and beliefs. We value inclusivity 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️✊🏽🖤💛❤, and insist on respect discussion of differing views.

Upcoming events (4+)
The ability to rethink is a superpower. Being stubborn in our thinking is not the flex that many people think it is. Navigating new possibilities as we grown and learn about the world around us can be tricky, but it's also a necessity. Join us in June to discuss "Think Again--The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know" by bestselling author Adam Grant.

[Note: Message me to attend in person, as space is strictly limited! Otherwise, join us on Zoom 🙂]

From the book jacket:
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world it might matter more that we can rethink and unlearn.
Organizational psychologist Adam Grant is an expert on opening other people's minds--and our own. As Wharton's top-rated professor and the bestselling author of Originals and Give and Take, he tries to argue like he's right but listen like he's wrong.
Think Again invites us to let go of views that are no longer serving us well and prize mental flexibility, humility, and curiosity over foolish consistency. if knowledge is power, knowing what we don't know is wisdom.
---------------------------------------
At this meetup, we will discuss the author's insights relating to the power of rethinking what we think we may know and how it can help us as individuals and as a society. And, as usual, if you don't get a chance to read the book, you are still encouraged to attend! Message me if you'd like to attend in person, as space is limited. But you can always join us on Zoom as well 😊

Hey, gang. It's time for our first excursion! This will not replace our regular book club event for the month. This is an additional activity.
The Lifeline Bookfest is an event focused on raising funds through the sales of second-hand books (also some games/puzzles/vinyl, etc.) to support their 24-hour Lifeline Crisis Support Line.
Navigating Bookfest can require a surprising amount of stamina, with such a massive selection of second-hand titles on offer from various genres. Bring your suitcase! It can be quite a task combing through the books to find your favourites, so let's make it a team effort :)
Here's the plan:
8:30 - 9:30 - Meet at Hoo Ha Coffee Bar [111 Melbourne St, South Brisbane] for coffee and chats. Share our 'wish lists' of authors/themes/titles we'd like each other to keep an eye out for.
9:30 - Shift over to Bookfest and start hunting, solo, in pairs, or however you prefer.
12:00 - Reconvene to exchange our finds and purchase the books we want. Then head off to lunch! Anyone wishing to return to the 'fest to continue shopping may do so.

From the book jacket:
World-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck, in decades of research on achievement and success, has discovered a truly groundbreaking idea -- the power of our mindset.
Professor Dweck explains why it's not just our abilities and talent that bring us success -- but whether we approach our goals with a fixed or growth mindset. With the right mindset, we can motivate our children to raise their grades as well as reaching our own goals -- both personal and professional.
Mindset reveals what all great parents, teachers, CEOs, and athletes already know: how a simple idea about the brain can foster learning and nurture the resilience that is the basis of accomplishment in every area.
This revised and updated edition includes new material on organisational mindsets and on opening yourself up to growth, and addresses common misconceptions about growth mindsets.
Dr. Carol S. Dweck is widely regarded as one of the world's leading researchers in the fields of personality, social psychology, and developmental psychology. Her work has been featured in such publications as the New Yorker, The Times and the Guardian

From the book jacket:
'An empathetic and wise book' - Nedra Glover Tawwab, bestselling author or Set Boundaries, Find Peace
|A radically compassionate plan for turning inward and lifting the heaviness that prevents us for healing ourselves and the world|
Yung Pueblo's path to deep healing began only after years of drug abuse had taken a toll on his mind and body. Searching for a way forward, he discovered that by facing his anxieties and fears trusting his intuition and focusing on meditation he felt mentally lighter and finally at home in his heart and mind.
In Lighter, Yung Pueblo reveals how we can move forward in our healing, from learning self-compassion and letting go to becoming emotionally mature. This is a transformative guide to making our actions become more intentional, our decision more compassionate, our thinking clearer and our future much brighter.
