What weβre about
[This is a hybrid meetup -online and in person! π]
In love with personal development? In love with reading? Well, then, this is the group for you! This is a space for real and raw discussions, where you are invited to bring your whole self to the table, not just the 'good vibes only' version. Even if you feel like absolute crud on the day and just want to giggle at our lively discussion with your camera off, that's cool too π.
We discuss a featured personal development book every month and outline strategies for implementing key take-aways for the betterment of our own lives as well as for the lives of those around us.
Are you writing a personal development book? Well, this is a great opportunity to connect with a community of readers interested in the genre!
These meetings are facilitated by a full-time Life Coach (yours truly) and former university educator with over a decade of international experience in facilitating discussions across groups from various cultural backgrounds and beliefs. We value inclusivity π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈβπ½π€πβ€, and insist on respect discussion of differing views.

For 2025, we've moved from Wednesday to Saturday!* Also note: This meeting is now held online (but if you happen to be in Saigon, Vietnam, message me to attend in person π).
I know what you're thinking, 'Yet another book about productivity? What gives, Leslie?' Yep! But check this out. Remember when we discussed Newport's book Deep Work followed immediately by Madeleine Dore's I Didn't Do the Thing Today: Letting Go of Productivity Guilt? Or Ali Abdaal's Feel Good Productivity? These discussions have allowed us to discuss various perspectives on a topic that has dominated the personal development landscape for decades! So join us for meeting #45 to discuss Newport's latest book, Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout.

Podcast: Thriving Between the Lines - Examining personal development books through the lens of intersectionalityFrom the book jacket:
Our current definition of "productivity" is broken. It pushes us to treat busyness as a proxy for useful effort, leading to impossibly lengthy task lists and ceaseless meetings. In this timely and provocative book, Cal Newport rejects this mindset, harnessing the wisdom of history's most impactful philosophers, scientists, artist and writers to help us radically transform our modern jobs. Drawing from deep research on these traditional knowledge workers' habits, Newport lays out the key principles of "slow productivity," a new philosophy for pursuing meaningful accomplishment while avoiding overload. Slow Productivity provides illuminating advice for arriving at a more humane and sustainable approach to work.
-----------At this meetup, we will discuss Newport's insights on being productive without burning out. We'll also discuss how these ideas may or may not relate to our own lives. Love the book? Hate the book? No time to read the book? You're all welcome! #leisuretimeisaprivilege
