We're joining Friends of Roberts Bird Sanctuary at William Berry Woods to pull Creeping Bellflower (Campanula rapunculoides), a lovely flower but invasive species. Unfortunately, this species has a strong presence in the woods, especially in the southwest quadrant along Richfield Road, the edge of the turf area and the sidewalk. The plant's tubers spread and crowd out the native plant community that volunteers work hard to preserve and protect in these woods. Until a more permanent solution can be implemented, we work to remove flowers before they go to seed.
William Berry Woods is the small woodland between Bde Maka Ska and Lake Harriet, on the northern edge of William Berry Park. Bring your own gloves and drinking water. Meet at the southwest corner of the woods, near the intersection of Richfield Road and W 40th Street. Street parking is available for free. Even if you can't make it right at 9:00, please feel free to join whenever you're available!
