What we’re about
This Meetup group is run by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC).
The Veg Society of DC hosts the events and pays the Meetup fee. You do not have to be a member of VSDC to participate in our events, but we encourage you to join. All of our events are vegan and we have a lot of fun! Membership enables you to enjoy members-only benefits like receiving discounts from our GreenRewards participating partners.
VSDC is a completely volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff. and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.
Founded in 1927, the Veg Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC) is the nation’s oldest continuously operating 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization promoting an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle through education, community-building, and social activities throughout the DC metro area.
VSDC believes in treating all people, animals, and the planet with respect and kindness. We are committed to creating a more compassionate and caring world.
We do this by creating a community of like-minded people who are on the path to an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on this path, we offer resources and fellowship to support you. We make your journey easier, more enjoyable and meaningful.

- VSDC Vegan Sketchers at Congressional CemeteryCongressional Cemetery, Washington D.C., DC
Come sketch with us at Congressional Cemetery! We'll spend the first hour walking through the grounds, gathering inspiration. Then we'll head to a shady spot (if it's sunny) to draw, eat lunch and chat.
You'll need to bring your own art materials such as paper, a sketchbook, pencil(s), pen(s), small watercolor set, brushes, water, etc.
There are no concessions in or near the Cemetary, so consider packing in food and beverages, as well as a camp chair or blanket to sit on in case there are no benches where you want to draw.
All skill levels are encouraged to attend, whether you're a sketching newbie or a seasoned artist. I guarantee we all have something to learn from each other!
Transportation: There is free two-hour street parking available at the main entrance of Congressional Cemetery, located on E Street. Limited availability may occur during busy times. The cemetery is also within walking distance of the Potomac Avenue or Stadium Armory Metro Stations.
Dogs are permitted with the purchase of a one-day pass ($15 per dog), unless you are a dues-paying member of the Cemetery's K-9 Corp membership program.
Bathroom Facilities/Water: Restroom facilities are available on the grounds. There is no food or water available.
