This Meetup group is run by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC), 7/19/22.
The Veg Society of DC hosts the events and pays the Meetup fee. You do not have to be a member of VSDC to participate in our events, but we encourage you to join. All of our events are vegan and we have a lot of fun! Membership enables you to enjoy members-only benefits like receiving discounts from our GreenRewards participating partners.
VSDC is a completely volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff. and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.
Founded in 1927, the Veg Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC) is the nation’s oldest continuously operating 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization promoting an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle through education, community-building, and social activities throughout the DC metro area.
VSDC believes in treating all people, animals, and the planet with respect and kindness. We are committed to creating a more compassionate and caring world.
We do this by creating a community of like-minded people who are on the path to an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on this path, we offer resources and fellowship to support you. We make your journey easier, more enjoyable and meaningful.

- VSDC Vegan Children's Playgroup at Woodland Wonderland PlaygroundWoodland Wonderland Playground at Walker Mill Regional Park, District Heights, MD
Join us for a special playdate in celebration of International Respect for Chickens Month!
Bring your little ones for some outdoor play, creativity, and compassionate learning. We’ll meet at the free Woodland Wonderland Playground in Walker Mill Regional Park (just outside DC) where the kids can climb, run, and explore to their hearts’ content.
After playtime, we’ll gather at a nearby picnic table to honor International Respect for Chickens Month with a book reading of “A Home for Henny” by Karen Davis, founder of United Poultry Concerns. This sweet tale gently teaches empathy and care for animals—perfect for young hearts and minds.
🎨 We’ll also have fun chicken-themed coloring sheets and crayons for a little artistic flair.
✨ What to bring:
- Plenty of water to stay hydrated
- Vegan snacks or lunch to enjoy during story time
- Smiles and good vibes!
We can’t wait to see you there and share this meaningful (and playful!) time together.
While the event and the VSDC Children's Playgroup is all-vegan, our meetup welcomes veg (or veg-curious) kids under the age of 10 to be accompanied by at least one parent or caregiver.

- VSDC Book Club discusses “Born a Crime” (online)Link visible for attendees
Please join the Veg Society of DC Book Club discussion of “Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood” by Trevor Noah. This meeting will take place online, via zoom.
Noah’s unlikely path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show began with a criminal act: his birth. He was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother when such a union was punishable by prison.
To participate read at least half the book — and RSVP at least two days before the meeting. People who RSVP yes will get the details to join the discussion (the weekend before the meeting). The details will not be posted on meetup.
The VSDC Book Club began meeting online in March 2020 (previously we met in vegetarian restaurants in DC or nearby Maryland or Virginia). We read fiction and nonfiction in alternating months, about any topic. For more information (including everything we have read over 30+ years!) visit: https://vsdc.org/Book-Club
