Parrish Creek Pitographs and Parrish Creek trail

Details

The hike from the parking lot to the pitographs is 0.4 miles and took me 17 minutes (according to my GPS watch). This trail is rough but it's only a short distance so I believe everyone can make it with trekking poles. Unfortunately, the rock section directly below the artwork was covered in algae when I hiked it last week so it was too slippery to ascend the final section. There is a good view on the trail below but bring binoculars if you want to get a better look at the rock art detail.

To make the drive worth it, we will continue on (and up) the Parrish Creek trail. The Parrish Creek trail does not follow the creek, so I don't know why they named it that. The trail switch backs up the mountain. This is a relatively easy trail, except that it continues to ascend without flat spots. You can get a good workout and just turn around when you've had enough. The views of Farmington Bay and Antelope Island are nice. There is only one trail so you can't get lost when you turn around. I'll keep hiking until the campground which is up and over ... or until the last person wants to turn around. I went from the pitographs to the campground in less than 2 hours. The total distance to the campground was 5 miles round trip, 1843' ascent and 3 1/2 hours.

In Centerville, take Parrish Lane east. It turns into 400N. Right where it dead ends, take the road on the left. It is a paved one lane road. You will curve up a hill and then see the parking area
