About us
Hi! I'm Mike. I'm facilitating this group as a place for IT professionals to meet, trade ideas, mentor and network. But I need your help! I'm looking for your support and assistance to help with the running of the group, offer to share your knowledge with others, provide venues for us as a way to promote your organisation, and anything and everything else. Or to simply come to our events and show your support that way. Come chat to me at our next event or give me a yell in meetup or LinkedIn chat.
The Wellington Architects Forum is a community for all IT professionals who either have 'architect' in their job title or practise architecture in their day-to-day jobs (which really is nearly all of us). Its goal is to provide a technology- and methodology-agnostic community support network for architecture practitioners of all specialties and skill levels, and networking opportunities for career growth.
As the name suggests we are Wellington based, our members practise all forms of architecture and many of our members are from wider New Zealand (and beyond).
We are active on LinkedIn and Meetup, search for the "Wellington Architects Forum" on either platform or go to

Please Note: We may stream, photograph or record these events and may reproduce the image of any person at events, here and on other sites like LinkedIn for promotional and other purposes. Please come talk to me if you'd prefer not to be in photos and videos like this and be aware that most events are video streamed on Teams for other members of the group.

Unlocking AI Productivity: From Fear to Kaitiakitanga
Z Energy Corporate Office, 3 Queens Wharf, Wellington, NZAI is already in production across many organisations. But if something goes wrong, who’s actually accountable, and how do we manage that "something goes wrong" risk in the first place?
In this session, Wellington-based practitioner Caio Augusto Tkalec (LinkedIn) explores the uncomfortable gap between rapid AI adoption and the reality of governance in Aotearoa. With most organisations still early in their AI maturity, and no binding standards in place, how do we move from uncertainty and risk to something more deliberate and accountable?
Drawing on real-world experience, Caio introduces a practical approach to AI governance grounded in the concept of kaitiakitanga - stewardship of data and systems. Expect a mix of hard truths, pragmatic frameworks, and ideas you can take back into your own organisation - whether you’re designing systems, reviewing risk, or trying to make sense of where AI fits.
Everyone is welcome - if you are in an IT/Digital role or considering one, you do architecture and you should come along and meet us. This talk will be particularly useful for folks considering an Architect role or want to know what Architects do.
This talk will be both in person and remote via Teams. I'll post links to the Teams session closer to the time.
