2026 Aus GP | The Sporting 🌏 Belmont | #changeisintheair
Details
I’ve only booked four at the moment to watch the race at the Sporting Globe, and my friend is tagging along. If there’s more demand for the event, I will contact them to secure a larger table.
Event start: 11 am, Race start: 12 pm
Event photo: A picture I took of Richard Branson after Brawn GP won 1-2 at the 2009 Australian Grand Prix. Virgin became the title sponsor of Brawn GP that year.
Season preview (as written by me)
The story of who wins this year's F1 world championship should come down to this scenario: can the nimbleness of Red Bull 🇦🇹 beat the financial might & power of McLaren 🏴? #poweredbygoogle
But there are more amazing stories to be told this season:
Can F1’s most influential figure, Adrian Newey, bring a world championship for Aston Martin? 🤓
Will Cadillac, who used a Super Bowl ad to launch the team, become a force to reckon with? 🏈
Will Audi be a good bet? They bought a former Swiss team last sponsored by an Australian online betting giant. 🎰
Will Lewis Hamilton win a feature race for Ferrari? (He won the sprint race in China last year, only for the team to be disqualified in the China main race. The rest of the season from that point was typically #screwderiaferrari) 🇮🇹
Will New Zealand’s Liam Lawson gain his mojo back in the Racing Bulls, the Red Bull junior team? 🥝
Why are Toyota dropping their name from “Toyota Gazoo Racing” as title sponsor of HAAS? ❓
Will Mercedes have yet another bland season under Toto Wolff’s leadership? Watch his wife, Susie, increase the profile of women drivers through the F1 Academy. 💁♀️
Will James Vowles continue the upward trajectory of the legendary Williams brand? 🤗
And finally, does Mr unethical Flavio Briatore lift Alpine from the bottom of the ladder? #stillarenault. 🙅♂️
When there’s a new set of regulations, like there is in 2026, the season opens up. It was kind of like this in 2009, where Brawn won the race 1-2 in Melbourne, straight after the GFC & a new set of regulations. It was the first race I attended live.
I can’t believe I sat next to Joe of all people on the plane to Melbourne, and he talked about his son Daniel, who was doing cool things with Red Bull in the Formula Renault 3.5 series at the time, and looking to get in F1, ideally with Ferrari. His advice: just drink water #mustbethewater. Shaking Branson’s hand at the end of the race was the icing on the cake that weekend.
It’s going to be an epic event at Albert Park on March 8. #ausgp
Maybe we should #askcrofty when he’s back in Perth on March 9 at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco?
