What we're about

Activate Mental Health is a dynamic mental health initiative that promotes the importance of community & social connection for positive mental health & wellbeing. Established in 2016 as the Perth Active Depression Support Group, the group has grown and continues to assist its members in improving their mental health through dynamic social activities.

The group has three fundamental principles:

Acceptance – we provide a safe and inclusive environment for our members to be socially engaged irrespective of their background,

Community – we endeavour to give each and every one of our members and volunteers a community to belong to and friends to connect with, &

Fun – we keep things fun because they say laughter is the best medicine!

This group is one of three meetup groups that are available to be joined based on local government areas. Events in this group will be based in the local government areas of Cambridge, Vincent, Belmont, Nedlands, Subiaco, Perth, South Perth, Victoria Park, Cottesloe, Claremont, Peppermint Grove, Mosman Park, East Fremantle, Melville, Canning, Gosnells, Kalamunda Cockburn & Armadale.

Vic Park Community Games Night

Victoria Park Community Centre

Why should we be part of a community? According to the Huffington Post, five benefits of being part of a community include: access to new knowledge, new personal connections, a source of inspiration, access to resources and a support network (read more here: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/jonathan-chan/the-5-benefits-of-communi_b_10390826.html). The Victoria Park Community Games Night is brought to you by a collaboration of three like-minded community centred organisations, being the Victoria Park Community Centre, the Perth Active Depression Support Group and Befriend Inc. Community is the foundation that these three groups are built upon and although they all operate in different ways, they all share the same goal to form strong connections and communities, thereby improving the lives of their members. The board games featured in the monthly games nights have all been crowdfunded and sourced from donations by the community. Our Complete games list is here: - Monopoly Perth Edition - Uno - Telestrations - Cards against humanity - Settlers of Catan - Trivial Pursuit - Balderdash - Jenga - The logo game - Exploding Kittens - Imploding Kittens - Sequence - Man bites dog - True of false card game - 5 second Rule - Guess who card game - Jenga - Mastermind - Pictionary - Scrabble - Quoits - Family charades - Code names - The irrational game - Taboo - Ludo - Chess, Checkers & Backgammon - Smart ass card game - The game of things - Connect 4 - Monopoly Deal - Yahtzee - Cluedo travel edition - Upwords - Scattergories - Cranium - Battleship - Concept - Split Second - Dumb ass - Fact or Crap Entry is $5, which goes to the Victoria Park Community Centre to fund more games for the nights. Evening games and coffee

Dôme Café - East Victoria Park

This event started of as just a small event, but the format has proven to be quite a popular format so I have decided to keep it as a fixture every 2 weeks on a Tuesday night and have got the assistance of Andrew as a cohost to allow us to run 2 small groups instead of one big one. In this meetup I will bring the following games: 1) The art of conversation (conversation cards, it's not a game but merely a way to get to know one another) 2) Sequence (think connect 4 meets playing cards) 3) Uno 4) Monopoly deal (card version of monopoly, takes 20 minutes to play) 5) Cards against humanity 6) Joking Hazard 7) Man bites dog 8) Blokus 9) Standard playing cards I’d encourage people to bring their own games if possible to encourage variety at these nights. This meetup is limited to 12 people as I am only bringing these games and I don't want to overload the venue with too many guests. We'd love to see you there. Why should you come to this event?
