Petanque Games & Plonk & Picnic at Mission Bay on Tamaki Drive

Festive Greetings All.

Free on Sunday 21st of December for a few hours to have some fun recreational time outdoors?

Come along with a friend or two to Mission Bay where we will play Petanque Games on the Grassed Areas close to the famous Fountain here today between Tamaki Drive and the Beach.

Games are easy to learn and play and we'll play relaxed Meet Up Rules with your Host and Coach, Stephen who's been playing Petanque or Boules for many years socially.

Like lawn bowls, playing Petanque Games ( pronounced Pay Tonk) is originally a French Provencal Game played in small teams or individually..

Looking like heavy steel large marbles ...the goal is to get your Boule..the closest to the target ball thrown out on the grass by the first player..by either tossing or rolling to get to the small target ball. We will explain more game strategies on the Day.

Typically games go for ten minutes ..and many others watch..as your Boule either stays or is knocked away by your opponent. Whomever gets closest to the Jack or Target ball..also known as the cochonnet...wins a point...or two if you've got two closer than others.

I've got about 4 sets of Boules so feel free to bring along your own set...and play our friendly Meet Up Rules..

We'll practice together on the grassed areas by the large fountain..and depending on numbers interested we may shift to the beach nearby if space allows.

Mission Bay can get busy in the afternoons, so we will kick off games fron 11am onwards.. I will arrange to arrive earlier for set up..and bring additional stuff to make our claim hopefully under the cover of the NZ Christmas Trees here. aka..Pohutukawa Trees.

Active children or Guests today are Welcome too under your supervision.

WHEN- Sunday December 21st 2025.

Meeting Time from 11am onwards. .We will aim to be finished by 2pm. Come for as long as you wish.

No Dogs or Smokers here today please.

Look for us by the Large Trees and the Fountain.

Traditionally Petanque Games are socially acceptable to include Plonk and other beverages. We will have lunch here too. Bring your own .

I suggest you carry or bring your own picnic chair or a rug to sit on the grass. Bring along everything you need to keep yourself sun protected..and happy.

Look for me wearing Orange Shirt.

Transportation Method

Organise this amongst yourselves prior to the Event . Add your Mobile number and Area where you live and contact each other. Or grab a Bus along Tamaki Drive to Mission Bay.

If you're driving here I highly recommend avoiding Tamaki Drive and choose alternatives coming here from behind Mission Bay shops...off Kepa or Selwyn Roads at Kohimarama.

Generally lots of free Parking available behind the Shops in the streets.

Avoiding the Carpark area by the Beach..or Use public transport.
