Join us on Saturday as we walk around the coastal area of Huia at the Southern End of the Waitakere Ranges. We will visit the best lookout offering 360 degree Photography opportunities and recreational connections at Mt Donald McLean and then walk mostly downhill into the Karamatura Valley of the Huia Valley.

Ideally suited for members of Auckland Social Events whom enjoy walking outdoors and hiking..and also photography enthusiasts who enjoy a deeper nature connection walking slowly and learning something about the things we see along the way.

When - Saturday 4th July 2026.

Meet and Greet is at 11.30am at the Huia Beach Domain and Toilets on the left just before the one landed bridge.

From here depending on numbers attending we will drive further to another Carpark and the start of our Event at 11.45am.

Please ensure you are here earlier to use the toilets.

Today's hiking is Easy Medium if you’re a regular walking person.. 4 hours with breaks..and time for socializing and talking.

Winter Hiking means coming prepared for weather changes, so it's colder outside now..be sure you wear layers to trap the air, using a merino or thermal wool layer over your chest or legs will help you keep yourself happy outdoors today.

Be sure you wear strong walking shoes or boots .

A rainjacket or something similar like an umbrella is helpful. Perhaps consider bringing a hiking pole.

Bring along everything you need including lunch and water and snacks and carry everything in a small backpack. A wool hat is helpful too.

About Me - I've been bringing people together for quality time outdoor hiking for many years. I'm the founder of the original Feet First Meetup Group called Feet First I started in 2010..I'm particularly interested in learning about the trees and the local early history of the Waitakere Ranges.
