The old event was:
This month we're doing something different to round out 2024. The theme is "Python Gone Wrong -- Lightning Talks".

Unfortunately, bad code can be written in any language and we've likely seen our fair share of strange things . Despite its clean, expressive syntax, even Python isn't immune from bad code. This event isn't for simply messy code or common problems. We want to focus on unearthing rare & exotic Python: bizarre coding, feature abuses & just plain strange things you've encountered.

The format is lightning talks, discussing strange code & your experiences in short, 5-10 minute presentations. Ideally, each presentation will be a few slides covering:

  • Background: what was the problem?
  • What do you think the dev was attempting to achieve?
  • What did they do? What went wrong? (code examples)
  • How did you fix it? (if possible)
  • What did you learn? What can we learn?
  • Q/A session?

If you'd like to volunteer to discuss some code, please:

  • Collect code samples
  • Anonymise/obfuscate if necessary
  • Submit your idea(s) & a brief description by one of the following options:

If we haven't responded, we haven't received it. The best submissions will be selected and the submitter invited to prepare some slides. Please submit your code examples by 23:55 Monday 2/12/2024.
