A : Walk : Harder
Hutton Roof Crags and Hale Fell
Holme ( near Carnforth ) To Milnthorpe
Leader Ron Wade
Distance 12 miles
Ascent 1350 feet

From leaving the village we initially walk North following the Lancaster Canal until we can cross the M6 and get to Holme Park Farm . From here a track is taken that climbs steadily up onto the side of Holme Park Fell until a minor road is reached .This is crossed to Pick up the path leading to to Hutton Roof Crags . All the terrain has been Limestone & in late spring this is awash with flowers .Hutton Roof Crags give an exelant view over towards the Howgill's and the Yorkshire Dales .
After leaving Hutton Crags an indistinct path is taken which leads down to Slape Lane which we follow to Burton in Kendal . A short stretch of road walking is now needed so that we can get back across the M6.
A path is now taken over Hanging Hill and once the canal is crossed we reach Hilderstone . Until Hale Fell is reached there is no other option but to do some road walking . I have utilised Moss lane to Minimise the walking at the side of the A6 . The path from Hale Fell skirts the woods and leads us to Beetham .From here we go through The Park ( Deer Park ) to arrive at our destination at Milnthorpe .

B : walk Medium
Haverbrack and Hazelslack
Milnthorpe Circular ( nr Carnforth )
Mileage: 8.62 miles
Ascent: 579ft
Starting from Milnthorpe we cross the river Bela and go through the deer park of Dallam Tower ( 18th Century Country House not open to the public )and the hamlet of Haverbrack. ( see post script below ) .We then go through Longtale Wood which leads us to another hamlet called Hazelslack which as a 14c Peel Tower . We then walk over some fields and cross the Canrnforth to Ulverston Railway line to arrive in the Outskirts of Arnside where we stay awhile and ponder the view over Morecombe Bay to Grange-over-Sands . We cross the railway line again at Arnside railway station and take the River Kent estuary path back to Milnethorpe passing through Sandside and Dallam Tower on our way .

PS At this point we could go to Beetham Fell and whin Scar to walk down the '' Fairy Steps '' which is a narrow limestone fissure on the fell famous for a local legend ! The steps were historically part of a copse toad used to carry coffins to the church in Beetham .This way would not make much of a difference to mileage ,looking at the map .
