What: Join the East Tennessee Wanderers for an historic walk in Secret City (Oak Ridge, TN). We will have both a 10K (6.2 mile) and a 5K (3.1 mile) walk. We will visit the Secret City Commemorative Walk in AK Bissell Park and learn some of the history of the Manhattan Project and the role played by the Secret City in WWII. We will pass the Oak Ridge History Museum as part of our walk which contains additional historical information. We will plan to have an optional lunch at the El Cantarito restaurant on S. Tulane Ave. following our walks for those who are interested.

When: The 10K walkers leave at 9:00am and the 5K group will leave at 10:00am on Saturday, Feb. 28th, 2026.

Registration: This is an American Volksport Association (AVA) sanctioned club walk and there will be a modest $3.00 fee for this event. Walkers will pay their fee to the walk leader at registration. Try to arrive 15 minutes prior to departure for registration.

Where: We will meet in the TownePlace Suites by Marriott at 300 S. Rutgers Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Look for the "Neon Green Shirts", as we will be your guides for this walk. The optional lunch at the El Cantarito will start about 12:00pm, at 191 S. Tulane Ave., Oak Ridge TN, 37830. Additional parking is available at the AMSE museum.

Walk Details: The walk is a scenic walk entirely on sidewalks and streets with some moderate elevation changes (~400ft) through some of the Oak Ridge neighborhoods. The Commemorative Walk explores a series of informational plaques that give details of the history of Oak Ridge and the vital role it played in the Manhattan Project. AVA ranking would be a 2A.

Pets are allowed on the walk but not in the museum nor at the restaurant.
