Native Cross platform apps with F# and Xamarin - Mitchell Tilbrook
This talk will cover how F# and Xamarin can be used to develop fully native cross platform iOS and Android App's. We explore what the benefits of using a single language over multiple platforms. Attendees will learn the pro's and cons of using F# with Xamarin, and Xamarin it's self.
The talk will broken in thee sections. The first section will cover the basics of F#, what it means when it calls it's self a functional-first programming language, what are the parallels between F# and other languages, and discusses some F# specific features. The seconds section will cover how Xamarin can deploy F# program on iOS, Android, and even Windows Phone. In the last section I will bring all these abstract concepts together in a demo application where I will demonstrate creating a simple application. By walking though the commits in an example application.
The talk does cover a lot of material fairly quickly. So, after each section I will summarise the section and have links to resources that go into details on the material covered. The sample application will also be on github after with more examples and content to explore.
Who is Mitchell Tilbrook?
I started by doing application and network performance monitoring. I'm since become a mobile and Web creating iOS, Android, Web, Desktop and Server applications. My interests are: Functional Programming, Discworld, and Dungeon and Dragons.
