Playing History & Relationships in Improv with Annie Remack

Great improv doesn’t come from clever ideas—it comes from shared history. In this two-hour workshop, we’ll focus on how relationships, memory, and specificity create grounded, funny, and emotionally honest scenes.

We’ll start by building connection through word association, mind meld, and group exercises that shift us away from “trying to be funny” and toward recognition. From there, we’ll explore how naming a relationship, recalling a shared memory, and honoring different perspectives on the past can instantly shape status, behavior, and point of view.

Through guided memory arcs, transactional scenes, and history-first montages, you’ll practice:

  • Establishing clear relationships quickly
  • Letting memory inform the present moment
  • Finding humor through truth, not punchlines
  • Trusting that the funny comes after the connection

This workshop is ideal for improvisers who want their scenes to feel more grounded, connected, and alive—and who are ready to slow down, listen, and let the relationship do the work. Come earn your funny!
