Join us for a relaxed and social group hike through one of Victoria’s most iconic walking tracks. The 1000 Steps Kokoda Memorial Walk offers a beautiful forest setting, fresh mountain air, and a rewarding challenge surrounded by towering fern gullies and eucalyptus trees.

This event is designed for people who enjoy getting outdoors, meeting new people, and challenging themselves at their own pace. Whether you’re a regular hiker or just getting started, you’re welcome to join.

Walk Difficulty

This is considered a moderate to challenging walk due to the steep staircase sections and steady incline. Getting There

The walk is easily accessible by public transport, with the trail located just a short walk from Upper Ferntree Gully Station on the Belgrave train line.There is also parking available nearby for those driving.

Who is this event for?
This event is for LGBTQIA+ adults and allies (18+). It’s designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and low-pressure.

Are pets allowed?
No. Dogs and other pets are not permitted at this event.

What does my ticket include?
Your $5 participant fee is a donation towards Oot and Aboot to help keep our community events running and insurance costs.

Is this event accessible for people with mobility needs?
Unfortunately, due to limited resources, Oot and Aboot is unable to provide accessibility assistance at this event. The 1000 Steps trail involves steep stairs and uneven terrain, so please consider your own mobility needs before attending.

What if the weather is bad?
This event will go ahead in light rain. In the case of severe weather, updates will be texted to your mobile. Please check before heading out.

Do I need to be fit to attend?
A reasonable level of fitness is recommended. The trail involves steep stairs and steady inclines, but we walk at a relaxed pace and take breaks as needed.

What time does the event finish?
The hike takes approximately 1–1.5 hours depending on pace. You're free to head off afterwards or stay and chat.

How do I find the group?
Meet us at the 1000 Steps Carpark at 10:00am. The host, Leon will be wearing a Oot and Aboot black T-shirt.

Is this a guided or self-paced event?This is a social group hike. There is no formal guide, but we stick together as a group and look out for one another.

Do I need to have attended an Oot and Aboot event before?
Not at all! New faces are always welcome. Come as you are.
