Mt. Thom delivers steep climbs, sustained effort, and excellent city views—starting right from Brand Library in Glendale.
This hike is designed for experienced hikers who enjoy pushing their cardio on short, steep terrain rather than covering long distances.

  • Distance: ~3.3 miles
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: ~1,700 ft cumulative
  • Time: ~2–2.5 hours
  • Terrain: Steep single-track, sustained climbs, technical downhill
  • Pace: Brisk / conditioning-focused

We’ll move efficiently on the climbs (power hiking), pause briefly at junctions and high points to regroup, and enjoy a short break at the summit before heading back down.
Faster hikers are welcome to move ahead between regroup points.

  • Meet: Outside the music studio at the north end of the Brand Library building
  • Quick stretch & introductions
  • Climb to Mt. Thom
  • Short recovery and views at the top
  • Return via a different route

  • Trail running shoes or hiking boots with excellent traction (very important for the descent)
  • At least 1 liter of water

  • Layers / light windbreaker
  • Optional: camera for city views
