Help restore wildlife habitat on the Boise River Wildlife Management Area by volunteering with Idaho Department of Fish & Game (IDF&G) to spread sagebrush seeds.

CARPOOL: Columbia Village Albertsons, 6560 S Federal Way, Boise. Option to meet at project site, 25 minutes away.

Carpooling to the site from our meeting location is recommended. If you are able to provide some open seats for carpooling, please state so in the comments—that would be greatly appreciated! We will also have some rides available in Fish and Game trucks.

Please dress accordingly. From our meeting location at the Columbia Village Albertsons, expect a drive of 25 minutes to our worksite.

BACKGROUND: The Threepoint Fire of September 2024 burned 762 acres of mule deer winter range on the Charcoal Segment of the Boise River WMA. One month later, the Valley Fire stole the show, burning 92% more land within view of Boise. Now that we've aided in rehabilitating the Valley Fire for over a full year, our attention is shifting to this momentarily overlooked segment of WMA.

What IDF&G provides:
We will provide all the tools and equipment required for seeding and will provide used leather seeding gloves. Bring your own insulated work gloves, old ski gloves, or liner gloves to use with our used leather gloves.

Plan to broadcast sagebrush seed using a handheld bag seeder with a cross-shoulder strap. We will try and accommodate with gentle terrain for volunteers that need it, to moderately steep terrain for those that are capable. No experience is required; a brief training tutorial will be provided by Fish and Game staff and volunteers. Expect the project to go into early afternoon.

What you should bring
Come prepared! Please remember to dress for winter weather. You will need to bring layered clothing, rain gear or a jacket/coat, boots or sturdy shoes, a hat, and gloves. It could be rainy, snowy, breezy and cool OR it could be sunny and moderate. Volunteer activities are subject to change due to weather and road conditions.

You will need to bring a sack lunch and water for the day. Bring a day pack to hold your food and extra layers.
