BACKGROUND: The Valley Fire rapidly scorched 10,000 acres across some of the most heavily used mule deer winter range on the Boise Front. We need your continued help to rehabilitate the landscape for wildlife. You will be part of a multi-year, multi-pronged effort to restore habitat on the Boise River Wildlife Management Area.

Help restore wildlife habitat and erosion control on the Boise River Wildlife Management Area by volunteering with Idaho Department of Fish & Game (IDF&G) to plant native grass and forb.

We will work on moderately steep terrain in areas burned by the 2024 Valley Fire. We have terrain options to accommodate all abilities, but those locations are limited. Group will meet at the Archery Range for instructions and then catch a shuttle up to the planting site (high clearance, 4x4 road). Carpools available from in town.

What IDF&G provides
Training is provided and crew leaders will be there to help. Fish and Game will provide all the tools and equipment (planting bar, shovels, buckets, and trowels) required for planting and will provide used leather planting gloves. Bring your own knee pad(s) and/or other favorite planting tools if you'd like.

What you should bring
The weather can vary in Fall. Please come prepared for a short hike. We will be working on varied terrain.

You will need to bring a sack lunch and water for the day. Bring a day pack to hold your food and extra layers.

The volunteer docents at the Snake River Heritage Center have graciously agreed to tour small groups of 8 to 10 through the multiple floors of exhibits. They will share detailed stories about the region's settlement, early industrial history, and the origins of the center originally built in the late 1800s and called Hooker Hall.

Fans of history and architecture will enjoy the concrete building, grand ballroom, auditorium, and traditional Tea Room.

Highlights include local Native American artifacts, pioneer and homesteading displays, early agricultural equipment, historical schoolroom setups, military memorabilia, and collections dedicated to Weiser’s rich music heritage.

FUN FACT: The grassy area surrounding the museum is also the location of the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest & Festival held every summer.

Entry to the museum is free-of-charge, but donations are appreciated.

Unfortunately, the museum does not have an elevator. please be prepared for stairs.
