Details

This hike follows the Northwest Branch Anacostia River along the Rachel Carson Greenway Trail. We will head southeast taking a series of loops away from the river. The Rachel Carson Greenway Trail goes on for many miles, but we won’t - we will find a turn around spot that limits our hike to about 7.5 miles total.

Expect an elevation gain of 575 feet, there are no stream crossings. The pace on the loops will be about 2.5 MPH, the trail along the river has several rocky areas where our speed will be slower. Some of the rocky areas are difficult footing, make sure you are comfortable with that before signing up for this hike. We will find a place along the trail for lunch.

Parking is off Rte 29 at the Burnt Mills East Special Park in Silver Spring. Both the East & West Parks have an address sign of 10701 Columbia Pike, Silver Spring - park on the east side. GPS: 39.030391, -77.004946
