Details

This hike will be in the neighborhood of five miles with about 400' of elevation gain. Our walking speed will be about 2.5 MPH.

We'll start in the Rockburn Park (a Howard County park - free parking, no admission fee) and follow an irregular dumbbell route. There will be some shadeless areas as well as grassy, muddy, rocky and rooty trails. There are no stream crossings.

We'll meet at the Frisbee disk course parking lot (near 39.2175, -76.7684) off the MONTGOMERY ROAD entrance, NOT the LANDING ROAD entrance. Take the FIRST left after the maintenance shed on the right. If you are near the softball fields, you've gone too far.

Please do not sign up for this hike if you haven't completed a similar hike recently. The Mountain Club of Maryland (see [MCOMD.org](http://mcomd.org/)) offers multiple alternate hikes of varying difficulty - easy through very strenuous - throughout the week.

We will be walking on some grassy sections so long trousers and tick spray are highly recommended even in he winter months. There is no water on the trail.

Bring a Frisbee if you have one and give the Frisbee golf course a try.

Here's where we'll step off: 39.21869, -76.76427. Note that we do not wait for late comers so please plan ahead.

We'll have an optional brown bag lunch in the park. Or, if there's interest, we can go to the locally-owned Regionale (not a chain) for a lunch of really tasty sandwiches.
