*Check out our NYC Short Film Club Youtube Channel and Instagram!
Watch any of our previous shorts like 'Finding Sarah Star' our very first skit back in 2022 which was pitched, written, and shot in one day, and our '48 Hour No Sleep Til: Genre House' competition submission- pitched, written, and shot in 48 hours. We have a few more shorts in post-production as of now and will be pitching our next project soon!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We meet via zoom every other Thursday from 7:30-9:30pm. You can participate as much or little as you have time for. This club is first and foremost designed for filmmakers as well as the 9-5ers or film professionals who want a taste of filmmaking as a secondary or supplementary creative outlet. For film shoot days, we meet in-person at one location of all-day filming on a weekend day (only a handful of times per year). You can either participate virtually or in-person. For each short, we need an in-person onset crew of approx. 10-15 members and a few post production members (editors, colorists, sound designers, composers are very much welcome and needed!)
Who we are:
A small, tight-knit group of amateur/ hobbyist filmmaking and screenwriting members who've been meeting since July 2021 to write original short films and skits, and talk about no-budget filming ideas and logistics. This is a chill, fun, and impassioned group of writers, filmmakers, and creatives. The purpose is to gain experience making an original short film for the love of visual storytelling, screenwriting, cinematography, design, and creative collaboration.
At each meetup we will jump straight into it- whether it be reading original scripts, planning a shotlist, or filming onset. One of the club officers is present for all meetings to host, guide the process, and keep things moving- however each member is responsible for their piece of the pie, i.e. screenwriters must work independently or together to write an original script, DPs and camera operators must bring available camera/gear and know a bit of basic cinematography, boom operators must bring or source available gear or, costumers must plan out costuming/styling logistics with actors and director, etc.
Typically, our pre-production meetings take place virtually. However, filming will be in-person, likely in one of the five boroughs or New Jersey. Members wanting to be onset for shoot day must be available to meet virtually as well as in-person if involved in production. All filming locations will be accessible by public transportation.
We will take our projects from pitching story ideas, to writing an original screenplay, then pre-production, filming, post-production, and finally to submitting our film to the local festivals and posting on our Youtube channel. This is a low budget filmmaking group so it should cost very little or next-to-nothing to make- just your free time and energy.
This is a hands-on, fun type of filmmaking club not to be taken too seriously but also with the sole purpose of learning the filmmaking through mutual collaboration where you can hone your skills or try out new ones! No need to have any experience as this is a hobbyist/ recreational group and we all learn from and help each other. No egos please- All levels of expertise welcome.
If you're looking to get started with this club but not sure where to begin, feel free to shoot me a message. We operate and communicate entirely on Discord groupchat for our active members. (Meetings on Meetup.com are only posted bi-annually or quarterly.) Join our group and check out our past meeting recaps to learn more!
