About us
All our day walks should be easily accessible for Manchester, Sheffield, East Midlands, West Midlands, West Yorkshire and many with good rail links even from London and the South.
Browse our Meetup site and you'll find lots of cracking walks and one or two bike rides as well.
We also have a big schedule of low cost weekends away throughout the year summarised at the link below.
https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/weekends
We're a group for all ages and stages and I guarantee you'll be made very welcome at any of our events.
If unsure about anything please ask.
Although everyone can join our group without charge, we are a a subscription based group which means that rather than make a charge for individual walks or require members to join the Ramblers Association to take part as some walking groups do, we levy a recurring Annual Membership charge of £10 or offer Life Membership for a one off payment of £35 but we allow your very first THREE MONTHS ABSOLUTELY FREE after which you need to make a decision about your continuing membership of the group. (Free period does not apply to re-joining members)
Full details are at:- https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/membership
Most of our active members have at some point taken out Life Membership of the group but once achieved requires no further membership payments throughout the life of their membership.
We understand that new members may be little uncomfortable at parting with payments no matter how small without knowledge and experience of our lovely group so also give THREE MONTHS UNCONDITIONAL MONEY BACK GUARANTEE from the date of payment on any subscription payments you make.
The kitty we generate through membership payments enables us to offer a massive program of budget weekends away and to pay our Meetup Fees, Liability Insurance and other expenses. All our activities are entirely NOT FOR PROFIT and none of our organisers or walk leaders draws any income whatsoever. Any income surplus is ploughed back into creating new events.
Please note that we do consider it essential for our group where members do meet each other 'live' that new members should use a sensible screen name that they expect to be addressed by and that they are prepared to upload/show a recognisable profile picture of themselves on our Meetup site.

Bakewell Parkrun
Hassop Station, Hassop Road, Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1NW, GBDon't do parkrun yet. You should, because it's for everyone. Even if you are old and slow like me it's still fun and a great way to add some healthy exercise to your life.
Monsal Trail parkrun happens every Saturday at 9am and everyone can join in. You can run, walk, be pushed or take a dog! All are welcome.
A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you!
The average finish time for runners is around 30 mins but you can take as long as you like with plenty of signs and volunteers to make sure everyone finds their way from start to finish.
There's nothing to pay and you don't have to pre-register with parkrun.org.uk although the big advantage to doing that is that you get a barcode and this enables you at the end to get your finish time and where you did in comparison to others. It is age graded so you may well get a high position in your age class even if you arrive at the finish well behind many others.
To register for a FREE barcode use the following link. You cannot do that part on the day!
https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/?eventName=monsaltrail
We can grab a post parkrun coffee at the Hassop Station Café and chat to others who have taken part.
Some of us are staying in the area to go for a bike ride starting at 11am also meeting in the Hassop Station but that is entirely optional.
Meet as a group just by the bike hire entrance by 08:45 so we can look out for each other during and after the run.

Longer or Shorter Bike Ride from Hassop Station
Hassop Station, Hassop Road, Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1NW, GBOur Almost Traffic Free Bike Rides have been incredibly popular since we started them after the covid restrictions ended.
This is a great ride with a choice of distance either by going the full length of the wonderful Monsal Trail and back which is as close to flat as you'll get or by continuing after a refreshment stop at Millers Dale Station to cross with a short road section to the High Peak Trail and use that to connect with the "Quiet Lane" from Friden which takes you eventually to Bakewell and then back to the Monsal Trail. The longer route is not entirely flat so some muscles and gears required. Shorter route >25k and longer route >50k so nothing too drastic for either. Our routes are now part of the recently announced WHITE PEAK LOOP which is a waymarked route of 42 miles (68km) going further south than we plan, to Cromford and then back via Rowsley. You can download the official gpx track for the White Peak Loop at https://visitpeakdistrict.com/trails/the-white-peak-loop
Mountain bikes or hybrids are best but doesn't matter on the shorter route where any bike will do. E-bikes are welcome. Refreshment and toilets available at the start point as well as at Millers Dale Station and in Bakewell which we encounter on our route but feel free to bring drinks snacks and a lunch packup if required.
Some of us will arrive earlier for the excellent Hassop Station Parkrun (no bikes allowed!) which happens at 9am every Saturday but that is entirely optional and listed for us as a separate event.
Helmets are required on all our rides for safety and insurance reasons.
Meet point: Hassop Station Bike Hire Centre
Time: 10:45am for prompt 11am start
Distance: 25k or 40k which can be decided on the day

Classic Walk along Bradford and Lathkill Dales
Bakewell Tourist Information, Bakewell, DE45 1DS, GBLathkill Dale in the Peak District is celebrated as a, beautiful, steep-sided limestone valley and National Nature Reserve near Bakewell, noted for its, clear, fast-flowing river, trout fishing, and historic, lead-mining ruins.
It has often been described as one of the prettiest dales in England.
This classic walk going almost the full length of Lathkill and Bradford Dale is one of the nicest walks in the Peak District at any time of year but at the end of May when everything has sprung to life it will be an absolute delight.
Dogs are welcome as long as they can be kept under control and are not constantly jumping up at people or barking.
Please take LOTS of pictures and upload them to this Meetup page so everyone can see how much fun you had.
Bring snacks, fluids and a lunch packup. Waterproofs would be a good idea too.
Lift sharing is strongly encouraged, just leave a message below if offering or asking for a lift.
Please allow plenty of time for parking and kitting up just in case and share transport if you can.
We do not wait for latecomers!
Since the end of the COVID lockdowns it has been apparent to anyone attending walks that another epidemic has taken hold which is members booking to come on walks and then not showing up. Occasionally people have last minute problems which prevent them attending but this doesn't explain the scale of the problem and the level of discourtesy to walk leaders and other attendees affected by it. It is a matter of seconds on Meetup to register an RSVP and an equal number of seconds to take yourself off of an event and there can be little excuse for not doing so preferably with at least 24 hours notice so the person organising the event can adjust their plans accordingly.

Komoot: CLICK HERETip: If you click the Komoot link you can see potentially hundreds of pictures from the walk route and when you sign in or sign up to Komoot for a free account (no payment or card details required) you get an extra feature which allows you to open the gallery for the walk and then select "Start to Finish" which sorts the images by distance from the start and let's you see them in order of the route with the distance for each picture shown in the bottom left hand corner. It is brilliant! If you are a new user to Komoot you can "unlock" your first region as "Derbyshire" FREE OF CHARGE and then download routes and maps for offline use. Yes they will keep trying to sign up you up for extra chargeable benefits as with Meetup but they are entirely OPTIONAL. No subscription is actually required. Riber Castle & Heights of Abraham from Cromford
Cromford Wharf, Matlock, GBA very varied walk with lots of interesting features and history. Riber Castle and Willesly Castle (neither of which are actually castles) born of great rivalry between Richard Arkwright and John Smedley who were important industrialists in the 18th Century. Richard Arkwright created many mills in this area and we can see several of those on our route. John Smedley's mill is still in operation today making it the oldest factory in the world still in operation. Amazing.
Great scenic walk.
