Let’s go for one of our favourite walks . From Hope we will go to Castleton and make our way to Mam Tor. I know it gets busy but it will be lovely to get on the Great Ridge to Hollins Cross and then return to Hope.

Distance 9 miles but a little more if you want to take in Hollins Cross top too. Group decision on the walk.

Meet in the main car park in Hope. Bring some spare change for the car park fee.

Meet 9.30 for 10am prompt start. I will leave on time to allow all members in the group to enjoy the walk and get back before it gets dark.

Bring waterproofs, walking boots , rucksack, hat, gloves, lunch and refreshments.
No jeans !

And a Xmas hat to wear ? Will be fun to wear one but no obligation to do so.

A nine mile walk centred on the Manifold Valley and the River Hamps.

We meet at 10am for a 10.15 start. The start point is the Pay and Display Car Park at Waterhouses. There are toilets at the car Park.

We will walk through the village onto the Manifold Way and over to the village of Calton. We then walk up to the summit of Mere Hill before descending back into the Manifold Valley at Beeston Tor. We then walk up to Weag’s Barn and across the fields to the village of Waterfall. We then follow the route of the Peak District Boundary Walk back to Waterhouses.

Total ascent about 1000ft

Appropriate clothing and footwear is essential. It will almost certainly be muddy in places.

This walk is 4.5 miles long and I have graded it as (Moderate) because there are some steep inclines, however we will do the walk at a (Leisurely pace). We will meet at 9.45am for 10.00am prompt start. It is a beautiful walk and there are some lovely views. Christmas hats are welcome! We start at Tideswell Dale Peak District Car Park (the car park is £4.75 for all day parking and is coins only). We then head through Tideswell Dale before turning left adjacent to the Ravenstore Youth Hostel. We then have a steady climb through Millers Dale before turning left into Cressbrook Dale where it is very steep. After continuing through Cressbrook Dale we turn left and go over the fields to the village of Litton. We will then go to the cosy Red Lion Pub, where there are warming log fires for a cheeky drink or two. We then head back through Litton Dale and over the fields to the car park.

Please come prepared for any weather ! No jeans . Rucksack, walking boots, walking poles , lunch and drinks and any medicines that you may need for the day. Walking 4.5 miles in the countryside is not entirely without risk and so please be aware that attendees are responsible for ensuring appropriate fitness, clothing and supplies. Attendees join at their own risk and responsibility.

It's difficult to ever get fed up of walking around Castleton which we consider our spiritual home in the heart of the Peak District we love.

On this Boxing Day morning we have chosen a mild leg stretcher of under 7 miles so probably around 3 hours or so in duration.

Western Sheffield has some lovely valleys and the Rivelin is no exception. This is a linear walk all the way from the North Western edge of Sheffield to Hathersage via the Rivelin valley, Redmires Reservoirs and Stanage Edge. There will be plenty of variety along the way including the possibility of a little scrambling below Stanage Edge, time-permitting.

Though not technically difficult, it could be quite tough in Winter, especially on the more exposed moorland parts. Please ensure you wear suitable boots, have adequate clothing/layers for the likely cold and wet/icy conditions, and bring a head torch!

We will have to crack on at a fair pace and so keep breaks to a minimum. Please bring own packed lunch and plenty of drink as there are no planned cafe or pub stops along the route. There are plenty of shops, cafes and pubs at the end of the walk in Hathersage however.

There are two options;
1. Option 1 - meet at Hathersage railway station car park at 09:15, and travel first by train on the 09:44 departure to Sheffield and then by Blue tram to the terminus at Malin Bridge (arrive 10:35 if all on time). Then walk back to Hathersage via the route outlined above.
2. Option 2 - meet the above 10:35 tram arrival at Malin Bridge, Sheffield and join the walk to Hathersage as in Option 1 above. On arrival in Hathersage, you can then take the train and tram back to Malin Bridge. There are hourly train departures from Hathersage, e.g. 16:44/17:45 with regular connecting trams on towards Malin Bridge, total journey time of around 60 mins.

Unfortunately, the restrictive conditions imposed by Sheffield Supertram effectively make it almost impossible to bring dogs on this walk, sorry! If an owner would like to bring their dog, please contact me to see if an alternative arrangement such as bus can be made.

If travelling by car, please car share wherever possible;
- If starting at Hathersage, park at the pay for railway station car park. There is also very limited free parking along Station Drive. Alternatively, use the pay for car park or very limited free street parking by the swimming pool, Oddfellows Road (S32 1DU).
- If starting at Malin Bridge, park at the pay for Park and Ride car park (S6 4JR).

What about a fantastic THREE NIGHT all inclusive NEW YEAR walking and social long weekend in East Cumbria based at the lovely town of Alston jointly the "highest market town in England". That means potentially FOUR full walking days if you want to use them all.

We plan an 10:30am meet on the Friday for those that can get away to do Cross Fell which is easily accessed from Penrith or Scotch Corner and nicely breaks the journey to Alston. It is the highest point in the Pennines range and only Top10 English peak outside of the Lake District. Once back at our cars will leave us about a 45 min journey to our destination for the weekend.

If not coming on the Friday walk general arrival is from 6pm at YHA Alston on what will be the start of our celebratory weekend so maybe worthwhile bringing plenty of the necessary although there are shops where you can top up if needed.

We don't plan to cater on the Friday night as suspect people will arrive at a wide variety of times so eat on the way, plan to eat out at one of the excellent pubs in Alston or if early enough collect from the local chippy and eat at the hostel.

Saturday and Sunday expect a choice of walks to suit the toughies and those who want to take it a bit more leisurely and there is loads to choose in this meeting point of both Coast to Coast route and Pennine Way, South Tyne Trail, Isaac's Tea Trail and many others in contention. It's lovely.

Sunday night is New Years Eve so we will definitely be staying up late and if weather conditions are favourable having a lively midnight walk to ring in the New Year in style.

Yes, it's the middle of winter and there may be snow in higher places but we will adjust the program to suit conditions and hopefully have something for everyone whatever your walking ability.

All food is provided from Saturday breakfast to lunch packups for Monday but we have no staff as such so help is needed with preparation and clearing up on a voluntary basis. We do cater for most dietary requirements and preferences but please ask if unsure. All main meals are included but we don't normally provide biscuits, cakes or desserts so if you want to bring some of these to share that would be lovely.

YHA Alston has always been one of our favourite spots. It's a great venue in a great location with an excellent choice of nearby pubs. What more can you want.

Yes, we do stay up late, play board games and card games and may even have a bit of music and dancing if that's what people want so if you are a sensitive sleeper ear plugs are a good idea especially over New Year.

The cost at this point for three nights multi-bedded single sex accommodation, two evening meals, three continental plus breakfasts and three packed lunches and of course potentially 4 full days of brilliant walking is now just £119 all inclusive.

If you have to cancel more than 28 clear days before the event start date you will get a full refund less 15% cancellation fee. If you cancel with less than 28 but more than 14 clear days notice the cancellation fee increases to 50%. No refunds will be provided to those cancelling with less than 14 clear days notice. ("clear" means does not include event start date or cancellation date!

A spectacular first mid week walk of the year and one not to be missed.

Alport Towers is always spectacular and with just 560m of ascent what is not to enjoy. Great views in every direction.

BURBAGE, CARL WARK FORT, GRINDLEFORD & PADLEY GORGE

Start the New Years first weekend on this fab walk to take in some stunning scenery, catch up and burn off some calories..

Meet at Upper Burbage North Bridge car park 9.30 am, ready to walk at 10.10 am prompt. If there are no available parking spaces left here you'll be able to find a space somewhere within a few hundred yards either side on the road.

Dogs welcome.

A walk that can suit everyone with an option to do the longer route of 9.5 miles or, if you just want a gentle stroll, a shorter route of 3.5 miles.

The Route
Burgage North, Fiddler’s Elbow, Higger Tor, Carl Wark Fort, Rain Gauge, Over Owler Tor, Millstone Edge, Lawrence Field, Bole Hill, Grindleford station, Nether Padley, Tumbling hill, Hay Wood, Grouse Inn, Oaks Wood, Yarncliffe Wood, Padley Gorge and Burbage.
(Not forgetting a drink afterwards at the Norfolk Arms Pub 2 miles away).

We set off from Burbage North and head south down Fiddler’s Elbow to Higger Tor and Carl Wark Fort then west to Rain Gauge and then south via Over Owler Tor, Millstone Edge, Lawrence Field, Bole Hill and Grindleford Station. From here we walk up hill for approx 20/30 minutes above Hay Wood where we will stop for lunch.

From Grindleford Station, we head south to Nether Padley, Tumbling Hill, Hay Wood up to the Grouse Inn. From here, we head back through Oaks Wood, up through Yarncliffe Wood, Padley Gorge and finish the last stretch of the walk up the East side path to Burbage North.

Bring refreshments, waterproofs, fluids and your camera's lots of photo opportunities. (WEAR WALKING BOOTS/SHOES - NO JEANS!)
