- Peak District Walkers Annual Christmas Walk & Meal 2023The Old Hall Hotel, Hope, Derbyshire, S33 6RH£10.00
Our Christmas Walk and Meal has always been a highlight of the groups calendar.
This year we are holding our very traditional annual event in one of the oldest buildings in Hope. At the Old Hall Hotel a mere mile or two from our spiritual home of Castleton.
The Old Hall Hotel is a grade two listed building which dates back to the 16th Century and is steeped with history. The name 'Hope' means 'Upland Valley' which is quite fitting.
We are not separating walk and meal into different events as most people coming for the meal want to join the walk and assuming we get 30 or more for that combination unfortunately there isn't the capacity to include people who want to only come for the walk.
It certainly won't be our only "Christmas Walk" as we have a number planned over the Christmas Period. The Christmas Walk on the Sunday after the meal and others will be open to all.

This is a fantastic place to start and finish a winter walk in the heart of the Hope Valley part of the Peak District National Park. Some breathe taking views including Loose Hill, Hollins Cross, Mam Tor, Cave Dale & of course Peveril Castle. Castleton is also famously known for their Blue John stone and caverns.
Peveril Castle is one of England's earliest Norman fortresses (mentioned in the Domesday survey). The keep was built by Henry II in 1176. The imposing ruins of Peveril Castle stand high above the village of Castleton in the heart of Derbyshire's Peak District.
We start from Hope Church and head up the hill NW through the fields to Wards Piece (Loose hill). This is most of the walks accent besides the undulating bits!.. From here, we head SW along the ridge above Barker Bank towards Mam Tor.
From Mam Tor we head South to Windy Knoll and then another 1.5 miles until we hit the Limestone Way which we follow to Castleton and through Cave Dale.
We will walk through Castleton next to the road for approx half a mile until we get to the final path before Spital Bridge that will take us back to Hope.
We should have enough time when we get back to change/chill etc before we meet for our Christmas meal at the Old Hall Hotel
