Join us for an an easy walk at the Phon D Sutton Recreation Area. It's easy in the sense that there is very little elevation gain. The main trail is sand and river rock. We will be walking down somewhat steep embankments to the riverbed where there are lots of rocks and uneven surfaces.

This section of the Salt River offers great views of Red Mountain and the surrounding hills. Hopefully we will get to see some of the wild horses, too. It is a popular place in the warmer months, and there is usually a fair amount of litter. We will bring grocery sacks so we can pick up garbage along the walk. There are dumpsters in the parking lot to throw away what we have collected.

We will walk about 4 miles total (2 miles in and 2 miles out) making a few side trips into the brush and near the river to admire the scenery.

As always bring plenty of water. Wear sturdy shoes and layered clothing. There is no water at the trailhead. There are pit toilets in the parking lot.

A parking pass is required. Options are 1) a Tonto Day pass, Tonto Discovery Pass, or America the Beautiful Pass to be displayed in your car window. Here is a link for more info: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/tonto/recarea/?recid=35397

We are heading from the Phon D Sutton hike to the Monastary for food, drinks, and live music by Tres Hombres at 3:00pm
