Sunset Hike: Morro Bay State Park

Let's do a sunset hike in one of the most underutilized areas (IMO) on the coast, Morro Bay State Park. This 2.5-mile hilly loop is up and down with three moderately-steep climbs, especially the first climb.

We'll catch a glimpse of Cerro Cabrillo and Hollister Peak on our way in, and our final climb to the top of Portola Hill will reward us with spectacular sunset views of the bay before we head back to the trailhead.

Where: Meet in Quarry Trailhead parking lot (see map)
When: 4:25; we will start walking promptly at 4:30
Parking: Free parking at trailhead
Pace: Casual
Terrain: Moderately-steep hilly terrain with three climbs
Distance: 2.5-mile loop
Bathrooms: None
Dogs: No dogs allowed on trail

What to Bring:

• Sturdy shoes with good tread
• Water
• Light jacket
• Camera
• Hiking poles (optional)
• Flashlight (we should be done before dark, but just in case)
