Mountain Waterfall, Hidden Cave and Glow Worm Canyon Spectacular!

Back by popular demand. This is a very special experience that only a fortunate few have ever enjoyed.

We will meet at The Minne Haha Falls car park at 12:30pm.

It’s an easy hike down to the waterfall for a swim. There are some amazing opportunities for photos on the walk down and at the waterfall itself. Bring your own lunch/Snacks/Drinks and we can eat after we have a swim.

Next stop is Lincoln’s Rock. Approx 3:00pm. We will travel in convoy between locations.

Traditionally this stop should be made at Sunset, however, time will not be on our side on this trip, as we need to descend into the canyon in the daylight to await nightfall and the arrival of Glowworms!

Lincoln’s Rock is an easy stop off point, you drive right up to it. It has some amazing views over the valley below. But the best part is a hidden secret below the rock. My friend Yulia took this photo of yours truly in the hidden cave beneath the rock. It became the most liked of her 500 plus photo entries at Project 365 and it also took out second place in “The senior of the year photo competition”!

See what I mean about the sunset? There is always another day though. We can try and replicate the photo for those that are keen.

Next, we head to the pièce de résistance, The Grand Canyon and thousands upon thousands of glowworms! A more amazing sight I have rarely seen before. The meeting point will be The Grand Canyon Walking Track Car Park at approximately 4pm.

It is a one hour walk into the canyon to the point where we need to get wet. This is the beginning of the canyon proper. We need to wade through a stretch of over-the-head deep, very cold water. This will require us to use dry packs or doubled up plastic garbage bags for our gear, we will float them ahead of us.

After this stretch of deep water there are no other deep sections again (however there is only one way in and one way out so we will need to swim back through in the dark on our return!!!) You will require hiking boots with good grip as we will be traversing slippery rocks along the canyon. Your shoes will get wet so either bring a spare pair or be prepared to walk out in wet shoes (that's what I will do)

We will push on as far as we are able up the canyon then return to a suitable point to settle in to await nightfall and the arrival of the glow worms. It is like staring up at a sky full of stars. It needs to be seen to be believed. Before sunset we can enjoy some snacks and dinner. Once our numbers are confirmed we can organise who will bring what food and drink to share, plus a small gas stove for some hot beverages.

Ok, that is the end of my part. Below is a link to a previous trip organised by Nam. Please take the time to read Nam’s advise, comments and recommendations from his meetup. I suggest you read it and take it onboard. This is an experience not for the feeble or fainthearted.
