Update:

Setting up camp around 2 pm. Start is more estimated than usual. DM me if you can!

Nice afternoon hike around the inner loop Chinquapin Loop for an official 7.05 mile loop. Natural trails with some marshes circling the Lake Raven, as per the park map description.

Might need headlamps or a flashlight for the last hour or so. Semper preperavit!

I welcome hikers of all speeds and abilities, but estimate a pace around 2.2 to 3.2 mph (something at or over 20 minute miles.) If you anticipate something different, let me know and we can plan ahead.

Day passes are available online at around $7.00 for state park pass holders.

It's about 45 minutes from The Woodlands for planning purposes. I recommend carpooling, as always. I will be in the area for other reasons so probably not a carpooling option myself.

It's vigorous enough that we'll actually take a 10 minute break around the middle point. Active hiking time closer to 2.5 to 2.75 hours.

It won't be too hot, but I'd be sure to have drinks and a healthy snack. Sunscreen, a shady hat, walking sticks, driving shoes also recommended.

Be prepared if you are a much faster (or slower) hiker to be able to orient and get yourself back to the parking lot. There's a great map online or in print from the rangers and basic apps like All Trails or even Google Maps are good to use. Also, get my number so we can text or call to keep in touch.

The day use area has facilities, but otherwise we will be out in the woods.
