WordPress 6.9 & 7.0?? Mon 12th Jan 7pm UK, Zoom, WordPress Cambridge
Details
Dear All,
This month, by popular demand, we'll discuss WordPress 6.9 and maybe what's proposed for WordPress 7.0. As this is a Zoom meeting, register for the Zoom link here:

Chris and I will kick off the discussion with a quick overview, more to encourage everyone to share their thoughts, challenges and ideas. The topics might include these (suggested by ChatGPT) features ....:
- Streamlined Site Editor / “content-first” editing mode to make quick edits easier for non-technical users.
- Expanded template management: multiple templates per slug, drafts of templates, safe theme switching without losing custom templates.
- Block-level commenting (“Notes”): allow editors/designers to leave comments on individual blocks inside the editor.
- Ability to hide blocks on the frontend while keeping them visible in the editor (for staging, experiments, seasonal content).
- Several new/updated core blocks including:
- Accordion Block
- Math Block (LaTeX support)
- Time to Read Block (estimated reading time/word count)
- Terms Query Block & related taxonomy blocks
- Command Palette access expanded to the full WordPress dashboard (not just the editor) so you can search/navigate via keyboard shortcut
- Updates to the “Interactivity API”, DataViews / DataForms, HTML API, Block Bindings etc.
- Performance and resource-loading improvements: faster page loads, better caching/back-forward browser navigation (bfcache), optimized stylesheets and script loading.
- No new default theme: the release focuses on editing, performance and developer tooling rather than launching a brand-new bundled theme.
