De qué se trata
A group based within all variants of Humanism, in the spirit of a positive humanity, that promotes both physical and mental wellness through meaningful relationships, free-thinking, exercise, a supportive group and being kind to one another. We like to do meetups of just chatting, lunch meetups, taking walks or seeing movies sometimes. We also like to do the occasional charity event to slightly better life for individuals.
Importantly, the intellectual traditions of humanisms has to be taught. As moderate postmodernist theories have shown, it is not, unfortunately, a matter of natural dispositions. (note, "moderate")
We are invited to participate in such an understanding of Humanism. (Capital 'H'?)
By the way, Humanists Brisbane is a community of Humanists Australia:

Please join us to discuss the book "How to be Good" by Massimo Pigliucci.
What Socrates Can Teach Us About the Art of Living Well.
The author draws on stories about Socrates, examples from Aristotle, Marcus Aurelius and Machiavelli, and modern interpretations to explore what philosophy can teach us about the quest for virtue today.
Is it possible to teach ourselves and others to become better people? Can we make ourselves into better human beings? Can we help others do the same? Can we get our leaders to care that humanity prospers, not just economically, but also spiritually?
Our third session will focus on Chapter 3 reflecting on "A Strong-Minded Child" so please read those pages if you can beforehand. This reading group will be facilitated by Akiva Quinn and Leslie Allan.
How to Be Good can be purchased from Readings for AUD 24.99

Book Club:This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
It’s okay to attend if you haven’t finished the book, but spoilers will not be avoided. We hope you will try to get through at least some of the book, though, as it makes for a better discussion.
This time around the book club will delve into a Hugo award winning novella – part romance, part science fiction adventure – about two time-traveling rivals who fall in love and must change the past to ensure their future. The story unfolds bit by bit through letters. The reason it was chosen for the Humanist book club is for the questions it raises around how empathy develops and why completely understanding a person need not precede loving them. It’s an unusual book and I hope you’ll give it a go and come discuss it with us. - Evento de red22 asistentes de 4 grupos de organizadoresA Human Hearted Answer to the Meaning CrisisSolo los asistentes pueden ver el enlace
Modernity's rational critique has undermined traditional paths to meaning, such as religion and tradition. They have been replaced with an unfulfilling cocktail of consumerist materialism and competitive individualism. Modernity's inability to offer credible paths to a meaningful life sees more and more people exploring alternatives, from hyper nationalism and religious revivalism to fetishizing Star Wars movies to studying Deepak Chopra, from following Jordan Peterson to following Oprah Winfrey, people grasp for meaning to assuage the empty and heartless nature of modern life. In this presentation, Lyndon Storey will present a path forward from today's global civilisation's difficulties to building a new, more human hearted modernity. Taking this alternative path focuses us more on supporting people to live more meaningful and fulfilling lives rather than searching for new idols and engaging in relentless economic competition and warfare.
