Michael Bertrando brings a truly global perspective to the improv stage. A veteran of the legendary Chicago, Los Angeles and NYC comedy scenes (iO, The Second City, The Annoyance, and UCB), Michael’s background spans from the high-energy spontaneity of American long-form to elite physical theater training under Philippe Gaulier in France and Antonio Fava in Italy.
Currently in Lisbon for Filmapalooza to screen his award-winning film Magnet Brain, Michael also most recently appeared in HBO’s Task. Having performed and taught across the globe—from Paris and Italy to Argentina—his workshops focus on bringing students' unique personalities to the stage with the playful, supportive spirit of veteran improv.

### The roots of improv: the Two-Person Scene

Join international improv veteran Michael Bertrando for a high-energy dive into the heart of comedic improvisation: the two-person scene. Everything you need to know about improv can be found in the two person scene - defining the who what and where, physicality, yes and, character, the game.. it's all in there! Whether you are stepping onto the stage for the first time or looking to reconnect with your creative spark, this introductory workshop is designed to build students' confidence, commitment and awareness.

Michael leads a session focused on the main pillar of great improv: making your scene partner look good. When we shift our focus from "being funny" to supporting the person across from us, true comedic freedom follows. Students will be led through a group warm-up session, followed by fast paced exercises focused on the basics of the two person scene. The workshop culminates with students doing two person scenes where they will receive tailored, individual notes to sharpen their play. Expect an energetic, physical day and as always in Michael's workshops, expect to do some scenes with the teacher.

What is improv?
Improv, short for improvisational theatre, is a form of live performance where the plot, characters, and dialogue are created in the moment without a script. Performers spontaneously build scenes by listening, accepting offers, and collaborating with each other and the audience. Shows often begin from a simple suggestion, like a location or relationship, and grow into unique, never-to-be-repeated stories. Improv can be comedic or dramatic, short-form “games” or longer narrative pieces, but it is always about discovery in real time.
