Let's get Earth Week off to a great start with a 6 mile, 1800' gain hike to the highest peak in the front range, San Gabriel Peak (6161')! This is the longer option of two hikes that will converge at the peak around noon. We'll start on the Bill Reilly trail, just off the Mt. Wilson Road 0.4 mile past Red Box, head towards Mt. Disappointment (5994'), then summit San Gabriel Peak, where we'll meet the group coming up from Eaton Saddle. Here we'll enjoy lunch and conversation, take in the views, and learn about the history of Sierra Club founder John Muir's treks in the local mountains. Then we'll hike back down to our starting point. (Muir's birthday is April 21, the day before Earth Day; traditionally we do these annual rendezvous hikes to nearby Muir Peak, which is still closed due to the Eaton Fire.)
No pets please. If you have a service dog, contact hike leader in advance.
