The Sierra valleys and mountains around Hoyo de Manzanares trails are not at all your typical weekender route. It's pretty much one of those areas only a few who like to hike know about. The truth is that it's beautiful from start to end. It goes through pretty viewpoints on medium altitude peaks, a waterfall and lush forests. The crisp winter days with a touch of snow on the ground add a special touch to it . Makes you feel so far from Madrid but it's less than 40 minutes away.

THE HIKE

A walk connecting different peaks such as El Estepar, Peñaliendre, Canto Hastial, Silla del Diablo and coming back through the Covacho waterfall, which is also a great place to stop for a snack and photos (actually, one feels like staying there for the rest of the day). The views from this pretty sierra go all the way to El Escorial or the Valmayor reservoir.
