Running in El Retiro TUESDAYS

In the park up the ramp outside the underpass tunnel leading from the Retiro Metro Station, Madrid

We meet at 8:30pm and run 2 laps around Retiro park. The meeting spot is just inside the park, up the ramp from the Retiro metro tunnel. We usually wait about 10 minutes and then go -- so latecomers should run counter-clockwise and try to meet us along the path. See you!

If you like hiking you MUST do this one. It's very demanding on one single day, but very accesible and a lot nicer, in two days. We get to enjoy the sunset from the trail, which overlooks the whole of Madrid's province and beyond. This is one of those physically demanding, and visually fascinanting route. 15 people max. This hike takes you in a lineal trail, all the time along the crest, passing the highest peaks in the region (with the exception of Peñalara) Bola del Mundo 2.258 m Alto de Valdemartin, 2.283 m Cabeza de Hierro Menor, 2.376 m Cabeza de Hierro Mayor, 2.382 m Loma del Pandasco, 2.244 m Navahondilla, 2.234 m Asomate de Hoyos, 2.242 m Bailanderos, 2.133 m La Najarra, 2.120 m Only suitable for those who know and want what they're gonna get :) If you don't mind walking long hours and hiking uphill, if you thrive in challenges, you'll love it. We don't race up, we take it easy, don't be scared, we're not professional mountaneers! We stop frequently. But if you are looking for something shorter and less demanding, this is probably not going to be your cup of tea. To avoid doing a killer 10h walk, and to make the most of our weekend, spending the evening with a glass of wine and the impressive views, we'll be spitting it in two days, camping close to Peña Vaqueros. We'll all be splitting the weight evenly betwen all of us, so leave empty space in your packs and read the What to Bring section, below, very carefully! Any questions, feel free to email me at [masked] or call/whatsapp me at[masked] DAY 1 - Puerto de Navacerrada- Vivac de Peña Vaqueros • Lengh 10 km • Gradient uphill 800 m • Duration: 4-5 h • Terrain: Earth trail and some rocky terrain • · Level: Medium (medium in km, medium in duration, high in steepness, medium in rocky terrain) This first day we'll have a bocadillo and a coffee in Restaurante Dos Castillas, for lunch, while we talk about the route, and then hike up to Bola del Mundo, from there to Cabeza de Hierro Menor, Cabeza de Hierro Mayor and Loma del Pandasco. Stopping for the night at Peña Vaqueros. It's the hardest part, tomorrow, but not many hours (just 4-5) and it will be mostly downhill from here. One feels very accomplished after this first day. DAY 2 - Vivac de Peña Vaqueros - Puerto de la Morcuera • Lengh: 11 km • Gradient: Downhill 800 m - Uphill 300 m • Duration: 6 h • Terrain: some rocks, mostly earth and dirt • Level: Medium: Some rocky terrain, medium in km, medium in duration, not specially uphill, mostly downhill Today we'll wake up, sin prisas, boil some water for our coffee, eat breakfast, talk about how dead we are, etc :) Then, with absolutely no rush, we'll pack our camp and head down the path again, towards the East, headed for Bailanderos and Puerto de la Najarra. We'll stop in La Najarra for lunch. In the afternoon we'll arrive to Puerto de la Morcuera, where we'll get to Miraflores de la Sierra for a drink in this beautiful town.
