Evening Sound Meditation
A gentle space to slow down and unwind at the end of the week.

No experience needed.
Just come, lie down, listen, and rest.
Open to everyone.
Science Meets Mindfulness – From Anger to Compassion
**Pause. Sense. Feel. Transform.**
**Anger, rage, and frustration are part of being human. Yet when left unchecked, they can hijack our nervous system, cloud communication, and strain our relationships.**
**This two-part experiential workshop series offers a grounded, science based path to meeting anger with awareness; and transforming it into clarity, empathy, and compassion.**
**Blending neuroscience, mindfulness practices, embodied movement, and mindful communication tools, we explore how anger affects the body and brain; and how it can become a powerful gateway to self understanding and deeper connection with others.**
**Through guided meditation, reflective journaling, gentle movement, visualisation, pair and group exercises, you’ll learn how to rechannel stress, regulate your nervous system, and engage with conflict in a more conscious and compassionate way.**
**Part 1: Rechanneling Stress and Understanding Our Needs**
**We all experience anger and frustration, when we feel disrespected, unheard, or blocked from reaching our goals. These emotions can feel overwhelming and have a strong impact on our nervous system and well-being. How can we navigate these moments without being overtaken by them?**
**In this first workshop, we focus on understanding anger from the inside out. We explore how emotional hijacking and chronic stress work in the brain and body, and how our internal narratives and unmet needs fuel reactive patterns. With curiosity**
**and compassion, we begin to transform anger into self-awareness and self-care.**
**You’ll explore:**
**● The neuroscience of anger, rage, stress response, and emotional hijacking**
**● How bodily sensations and internal narratives shape anger**
**● Identifying the feelings and unmet needs behind frustration**
**● How to rechannel anger through breath, visualisation, and gentle movement**
**● Using mindful self-talk and mantras to express needs**
**● Cultivating self-compassion as a foundation for clarity and regulation**
**The Mindful BAse x Villa Vida**
**Where science meets mindfulness – for awareness, connection, and community.**
**At The Mindful BAse, we believe that mindfulness is not only a personal practice, but also a powerful way to strengthen relationships, communities, and our connection with our environment. Founded in Vienna in 2025, our mission is simple: to bring people together,**
**foster well-being, and cultivate a community rooted in awareness, kindness, compassion and**
**respect.**
**Through our collaboration with Villa Vida, we are excited to present a series of science-based mindfulness workshops designed to encourage meaningful dialogue, nurture learning and reflection for supporting the local queer community. We create spaces where**
**ancient practices meet modern insights, offering sessions that combine yoga, meditation, neuroscience, communication tools in a safe, inclusive and inspiring space. Each workshop invites you to slow down, connect, and learn practical ways to care for yourself and others – grounded in both science and lived experience.**
**All identities, bodies, and levels of experience are welcome.**

Workshops with Joe Bill
Joe Bill – last time, all of his workshops were sold out within a day – so be quick! We are offering a variety of topics and lengths with him. Try out his famous "The Bat" format, find a new duo partner, and learn about curiosity and suspicion.
**APR 17 The BAT - 6h Format Workshop**
In this workshop I will take you through the experience of one of my signature formats, The Bat, which is essentially a longform improv piece that players play with their eyes closed for an audience who experiences your “theater of the mind” as they sit in a darkened theater. The Bat may contain elements of both Narrative and Freestyle long form sensibilities, and each is somewhat a unique reflection of the collective personalities of the players who perform it. It is truly a joy ride in the dark.
More Info & Registration [here](https://www.yesticket.org/event/en/the-bat-17-04-26/)
**APR 18-19 The DUO Mixer**
12h Intensive with Showcase
You will come as yourself (without a duo partner!) and after an hour or so of my observing your improvising in some scenes and exercises, I’ll pair you with another person and take you through the process of the beginning steps of Duo Play. I will watch the Duo Showcase and take notes and then on Day 2 I will give feedback. These steps will be very helpful to experience, whether you remain with the Duo partner or to begin working in another Duo going forward.
More Info & Registration [here](https://www.yesticket.org/event/en/the-duo-mixer-18-04-26/)
**APR 20 - 6 PM - Playing With Curiosity & Suspicion**
3h Workshop
The way that character might listen to their scene partner in order to find the connection and understand what the scene is about as quickly as possible is the goal of this workshop. I will show you how to listen through Curiosity and Suspicion and pay attention to the mix of Circumstances and Interpersonal words and cues.

Türen offen: 18:00 // Beginn: 18:30 Eintritt 5€\* cash only (Für Mitglieder frei.
//We do not provide any illegal substances, nor allow their distribution or consumption at our events. Our mission is to provide high-quality information and safety guidelines about psychedelic substances.

Shut Up & Write!® - Sundays at Café Pierre
Come write with us at Cafe Pierre every Sunday at 18:00-20:00!
A message from Shut Up & Write: "Shut Up & Write hosts free, in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer—regardless of genre or skill level—has access to the resources, community, and accountability that they need to be successful in their personal writing goals."
And what this looks like at our event: We chat and give short introductions to what we are working on at 18:00, then start writing at 18:15. Though we try to start on dot, being late isn't a problem—just find a spot and get to work! We write until 20:00 and then discuss how our writing went. From fiction to non-fiction, academic papers to poetry, applications to work-related writing—anything goes! Nothing is needed except for you to bring whatever is need to get stuff done, i.e. laptop, headphones, pen and paper, and so on.
Optional socialising may happen before 18:00 and after 20:00, or you may choose to use this time to get some more done! Please do order something from the café (drink, meal, dessert, etc.) so as to keep us in their good graces!
Sunday Screenings in the Living Room
Weekly screenings from a large archive of many of the most significant, yet seldom seen and rarely accessible cinematic masterpieces in the history of film - from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Screenings are in original language, if English, or original language with English subtitles.
Films are selected democratically on the inspiration of a brief pre-screening discussion. The selected title is typically a "neglected gem" that most of us discover together for the first time. Individual taste is not a criterion and all participants are expected to put the interests of the group as a whole above personal preference or prejudice. In this sense, the emphasis is on openness, exploration, and surprise. Each screening is followed by an in-depth group discussion, led and moderated by the curator.
WARNNG: FilmStory is not just about watching movies! Rather, it's a socially responsible, intellectual engagement, involving an organic approach to group study of film language, philosophy, art, history, politics, and technology. In this sense, the film is always merely the current highlight in an explorative, ongoing group discussion.
**FilmStory** is a members-only series that involves a closely knit community of cinephiles. Events take place every Sunday in a comfortable, private setting with limited capacity. Participation is reserved primarily for regular members, but we're always ready to make new friends!
Non-regular members may request to meet the community and, upon acceptance as a "new joiner," are welcome to participate in one event, according to space availability. New joiners are asked to make a €6 member dues contribution in advance of the requested date. New members receive a message of confirmation and the address of the Living Room in 1080 Vienna upon receipt of their dues contribution.
**FilmStory** is presented and hosted by **[KulturSalon Wien](https://www.meetup.com/kultursalon-wien/)**.

Contra dance with Big Scioty May 2 - Clinton Heights Lutheran church
**Caller: Richard Ades**
**Band: The McKenzies**
**Clinton Heights Lutheran Church**
**15 Clinton Heights Ave, Columbus, OH 43202**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/)
Please bring your own refillable water bottle.
Drunken
This month's prompt concerns the idea of the “warrior philosopher” (seemed appropriate in these times)--that is someone whose understanding of violence, power, and justice is forged through direct experience of war. We are looking at Major General Smedley D. Butler, a highly decorated U.S. Marine raised in a Quaker (pacifist) tradition who later became a prominent critic of American militarism (there is a wonderful biography of Gen. Butler called "Gangsters of Capitalism")
Butler's argument in *War Is a Racket* (1935): that many U.S. interventions were driven less by national defense than by corporate and financial interests, with Butler portraying himself as an enforcer for business and Wall Street. We can consider the moral ambiguity of his insider critique—whether complicity strengthens or undermines credibility and also consider some of the concrete reforms he proposed (e.g., “conscript” capital before soldiers, restrict the military to coastal defense, and have only those who fight decide on war).
Butler’s life arc clearly changed from pacifist upbringing to warrior to antiwar crusader—and asks whether true understanding of peace requires firsthand knowledge of war, and what that implies about the cost of suffering. So do we need to suffer to understand suffering? Do we have to experience war to appreciate peace? As one more question: in the movie "A Few Good Men" Jack Nicholson's character says that "you have the luxury of not knowing what I know" so do most of us go through life oblivious to real violence and suffering? See you at Drunken Philosophy!
