This session: General information: Sue Schneider will guide you through this meditative drawing art form. Step-by-step, you will learn the basic process for creating a small, abstract design using repetitive pattern skills. Zentangle is easy, relaxing and stress-free; perfect for "these challenging times". FIRST-TIMERS: If you are brand new to Zentangle, I'm happy to send you my Beginner's Guide, that will fill you in on background, basic techniques and some starter patterns. Just email me at sue.schneider.artist@gmail.com with "Beginner's Guide Request" in the subject line. Our lesson will begin promptly at noon. The lesson will be about 75-90 minutes. Sue will demonstrate patterns and techniques for you to follow along. During the last few minutes we'll share our creations and wrap-up. There are 2 sessions each month, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. At each session we'll follow the basic Zentangle method and explore a variety of themes and topics, often with new pattern introductions and techniques beyond the basics (e.g., shading, color, non-abstract, use of tinted papers, etc.) SUPPLIES NEEDED: Please provide a standard pencil, a fine tipped black marker, and paper on which to draw. Optional: Tortillion (blending stub), colored pencils, white and red fine tipped markers/pens. Pen recommendations: Sakura Pigma Micron 01; Uniball Vision Micro; Sharpie Fine (look for "**no-bleed**" on the package, solid black barrel). Paper: We usually work on a 3.5" square paper (called a "tile"). Good quality papers that work well are Strathmore Vellum Bristol, 95# or 140# water color paper, a "Mixed Media" sketchbook, 65# card stock. Recently I have often used a 4x6" blank index card. Join us for a tour of Brothers Drake Meadery in Grandview, hosted by the owner Oron Benary. He will explain the mead-making process and offer us generous samples of their fine meads. Mead is basically wine that is made from honey instead of grapes. There are many different flavors that range from dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, to sweet. They are best known for their Apple Pie Mead. Oron has offered us a special price of 5.00 each person for the tour and tasting, which is normally 25.00 per person. I've taken the tour several times, and it's always enlightening and fun. Rebecca will bring a tea that will pair well with the mead for a tea tasting afterwards. Park anywhere around the building.
