Waterfront Coastal Italian at Capitano DC!
Waterfront Coastal Italian at Capitano DC!
Join us to enjoy the new southern & coastal Italian Capitano DC inside the Canopy Hotel at the Wharf! Just opened on March 6, Capitano promises a seasonal, ingredient driven menu which will bring the warmth of Italy to your heart (perhaps don't mention that to your cardiologist)! Fresh out of the box - there are not a lot of reviews readily available... so here's a sneak [peek! ](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=b2010e30be87c2d7&rlz=1C1MYPO_enUS1186US1186&sxsrf=ANbL-n7QF96KqINRyJzwSekLVm4IIhBMQw:1773939200381&udm=39&fbs=ADc_l-aN0CWEZBOHjofHoaMMDiKpmAsnXCN5UBx17opt8eaTX5MJRoosnbembaWTjeNSquJhopKzGFtXgl9coBQO6WPIzXQJ7xWrFSNJtPY_sN9P3Bp1JhQ8rhweG19BcJY7IX4dkk4-fK170qVf5whUF9Os5tDLUZoh7OWg-2aMM9vtkCP0U843gX20awUgkT5MJY8d_2jp7L7XBza0i01ayRbKIVkQ4A&q=capitano+dc+review&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwithJG_tqyTAxXwF1kFHTTzHI0Qs6gLegQIFBAB&cshid=1773939220667028&biw=1280&bih=551&dpr=1.5#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:29603d15,vid:ZPBrh9C_bhA,st:0) Let's check it out and see for ourselves! **Popville:** Capitano blends tradition with a touch of modern ease. It’s approachable, never fussy and where a plate of housemade pasta or the day’s crudo feels just as natural with a spritz at lunch as it does with a bottle of wine under the evening lights. The restaurant, which features open-air dining and views of the water (and maybe some cherry blossoms if we're lucky!), brings a fresh, approachable dining option to DC’s waterfront, as the concept takes over the restaurant space within the Canopy by Hilton at The Wharf. The interior is completely reimaged, with Capitano’s look and feel being inspired by the traditions, culture, and architecture of Southern Italy. Capitano’s bright colors and traditional textures of the Southern Italian region are infused with the modern forms and clean lines of more contemporary Italian furniture design. Floor-to-ceiling windows, weathered wood, ceramic tile accents and natural linens highlight the space. The result is a seamless journey that transports the guest from the hotel’s clean and refined public space to a quaint Italian Piazza. The Coast is calling - looking forward to sharing this experience with you! ***Check out the menus [here](https://www.capitanodc.com/menus/)*** We ask that ALL folks honor their RSVP. If you are unable to attend after sending in a YES, please update your status so that others may join. If you are unable to join us in April we hope you'll stay interested and join us for a meal in the future. Looking forward to catching up with you for a fantastic dinner at Capitano!

San Fermin (Running of The Bulls) Fiesta
San Fermin (Running of The Bulls) Fiesta
What better way is there to celebrate San Fermin, other than at a .....named after the very city of Pamplona (with all set-up, decoration and amenities), where the main fiesta takes place and without heading to Spain?! We won't have the real bulls running around. But we will have real Spanish Drinks to sip on! It is ornate, bullfight-themed Spanish spot for creative tapas & paellas, plus sangria on tap & cocktails that draws its inspiration from Ernest Hemingway’s travels throughout the Basque region of Spain. It is located in the bustling Clarendon neighborhood, features an innovative take on traditional Spanish fare paired with an extensive sangria program. -Free with RSVP * Huge line up of DJs * For bottle/table service AND birthday specials text 202-368-1878 * Dress Code : we encourage you to dress-up in White and Red * Event is 21+ * We will have specials including the usual suspect Mer-Tini:) -Come one, come all; this is the most friendliest event you have ever attended! * Feel free to invite your friends. They don't necessarily have to be a member EXCERPT ".....The world’s most exhilarating race (yes, with real bulls!)takes place each July in the cramped streets of Pamplona, Spain for a nine-day festival unlike any other. The famous Running of the Bulls in Spain is actually just a portion of a three-part fiesta known as the San Fermin festival. The origin of the Pamplona bull run dates back to the 14th century when local Spaniards began honoring the passing of Saint Ferman. Saint Ferman was dragged to his own death by bulls – so what could be more fitting a tribute than an annual run with the bulls? In his memory, participants take part in a feast day, an ancient fair and a bullfighting event that has become world-famous. The massive party kicks off at midday on July 6 after the launch of the Txupinazo rocket. Locals and tourists come together in a rowdy crowd ready to take on nine days of celebratory drinking and eating. The actual bull run itself includes a half-mile course that winds through four different cobblestone streets of the historic Spanish town. As you might imagine, slow runners are not encouraged to attempt the life-threatening feat of running with bulls. On the mornings of July 7 to July 14, hundreds of anxious spectators dressed in red and white await the sound of the starting rocket – and the lumbering arrival of the bulls. Once the bulls are released, adrenaline-seeking runners sprint down the road for their lives… literally. The enraged bulls show no mercy to those who slip or fall on the course, making this one of the most dangerous running events of all-time. Once the race is completed, traditional bullfighting commences. This allows runners to take a shot at besting the bulls in true matador fashion. By the end of it all, festival-goers accompany each other for a closing candlelight performance of the song “Pobre de Mi.....” METRO & PARKING INFO : It is half a block from the Clarendon metro station. Street parking might be a challenge. There are parking garages around.

· The Inspector General · by Henry Koster ☼ online event
The corrupt officials of a 19th-century Russian town get word that an inspector general is coming to assess local conditions. A wandering fool arrives, and in keeping with the action in the play by Nikolai Gogol on which the movie is based, the locals assume that he is the inspector general in disguise. The madcap hijinks of the mayor and his cronies as they try to make the town appear well managed are matched by Danny Kaye’s antics as he tries to confirm their delusion. ■ Title — *The Inspector General* ■ Director — Henry Koster ■ Cast — Danny Kaye, Walter Slezak, Barbara Bates ■ Rating — Approved (suitable for general audiences) ■ ©1949 \| 1h 42m \| Comedy\, Music\, Musical\, Romance ■ Watch it free with ads on Fawesome: https://fawesome.tv/movies/10450611/the-inspector-general-1949 ■ Watch it free with ads on Flixhouse: https://flixhouse.com/video/697/the-inspector-general ■ Watch it free with ads on Tubi: https://tubitv.com/movies/269893/the-inspector-general ■ Available free without ads to Amazon Prime subscribers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/amzn1.dv.gti.f0ceb48a-9fa5-4c23-99a0-1f1171620d5a ■ As with most of our online features, you can watch this one whenever you like. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces. PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details: IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events! Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: THE CHRISTOPHERS vs NORMAL at the Gateway!
Join us as we get together for a Discount Tuesday / Choose Your Movie event to see your choice of two great new films! Option 1 (and the one I'll be seeing) is the top-reviewed comedy-drama, THE CHRISTOPHERS! The film is set in the art world and follows the estranged children of a former artist who hire a forger. It is directed by Steven Soderberg, stars Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel and has been earning rave reviews on the indie circuit. Option 2 is the latest action-thriller starring Bob Odenkirk, NORMAL! The film follows a temporary small-town sheriff who uncovers dark mysteries after a local bank robbery. Here are descriptions, trailers and our plan for this event: THE CHRISTOPHERS: The children of a once famous artist hire a forger to complete some unfinished, long ago abandoned canvases so they'll have a better inheritance when he dies. It is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, Jessica Gunning and James Corden. BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film is earning an excellent 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes where critics call it a “dynamic, emotional and surprising journey” and a “compelling chamber piece that works like intellectual comfort food.” Others call the film, an “incredibly funny, comedy drama with plot reversals that make it feel like it’s on the verge of a thriller!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H79-EqzmdwY&t=20s NORMAL: This action-crime-thriller follows a man who comes to the sleepy town of Normal, Minnesota to serve as the temporary sheriff. But a bank robbery leads him to a criminal underground reaches throughout the entire town. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley and stars Bob Odenkirk, Henry Winkler and Lena Headey. The film comes from the same team that brought us Nobody and the John Wick series, so expect an over-the-top, action-filled thrill ride! TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmm-lM33Qw0&t=19s PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime. Once showtimes are announced, advance ticket purchase is advised (GFC website preferred)! Please list your movie of choice and seat number in the Comments section of this event. Showtimes and complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. PARKING: Close, convenient parking is available in the nearby garage (located between 9th and 11th, just off High St). Bring your ticket with you and have it validated at the theater and for $2, you’re covered for the night! Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
